Need Birthday Gift Ideas for One Year Old Girl

My daughter is turning one next month. Our "party" is going to be just us, presents and cake. I want to get her some toys she will really enjoy. Any and all ideas are very much appreciated!

What can I do next?

Hi J. -

Here are some of the toys that my daughter got when she was one and she still enjoys playing with at 18 months. A couch that is her size and folds out into a bed, doll with stroller for her to push around, toys she can sit on and ride around on, ball popper, blocks, and books. Hope she has a great birthday!

a ball is always a big hit. My in-laws gave my daughter a little truck that she could push, pull or ride. It was a huge hit. I think its a little tykes toy.

Some great suggestions below! I would just add the Playskool Laugh and Learn kitchen/living room. We got it for my son for Christmas (he was 13 months at the time) and it is still a big hit at 19 months. We decided to get it after hearing from lots of moms that it is a great long term toy that will be entertaining well into preschool years. So far, it has lived up to the hype! It plays lots of different music, has a light switch that turns on and off, two different shape sorters, and lots of other stuff. Oh, and we haven't had to change out the batteries yet, which is a big plus :)
Happy birthday to your little one!!

My son just turned one. We got him a little tikes playground. It has a slide and a small swing. he climbs into the swing and up the slide all day long as we have the set inside the house. Another item I reccommend is the baby signing time DVD's he loves them and asks to watch them by signing. He says about 10-15 words consistently and he signs dozens of words. The dvds would be a great gift and a good communication investment for you.Happy birthday to your little one.

Last year when my son turned one i bought him a sit on tractor that he pushes with his feet. Hit makes noise and he can put things in the seat. He loves it still today he is always on it chasing sister or the dog. I know they had a Dora one as well for little girls. it was around $40 but I've seen them on clearance lately at target. Also balls He loves balls. The big ones he can throw himself on are his favorite.

Hi J.,

Our daughter is almost 16 months old and for her first birthday we signed her up for Kindermusik as her big gift. It is honestly the best money spent thus far benefiting her and us! I highly recommend it looking it up and trying a class to see if it's right for you:)

When they turn 1 great gifts are things like stacking blocks, those little tubs that have shape holes on top, where the kids try to get the right shaped block through the right hole, then those stacking rings, where the different colored and sized rings stack on a stationary pole. They are great learning toys and fun and teach them hand eye coordination and problem solving. Other fun things are rocking horses or rocking type toys, a baby doll for a little girl, or get her a swim suit, swim toys and take her swimming with mom and dad.

Things my 21 month old loves:

- anything with wheels (small toddler scooter/trike), wagon
- anything to play with water, dirt and sand (sand box, water table, garden tool toys)
- books--esp. ones that have different textures, opening flaps, pop-ups (can tear easily).
- stuffed animals/dolls of her favorite characters/animals (ELMO, bunny rabbits...)
- blocks/big legos
