Hello,

I am pregnant in the first trimester. I had to quit all products that may harm the baby due to the fragrance and chemicals contained. Would you please recommend any safe and great shampoo/conditioner and body cream products during pregnancy?

Thank you

What can I do next?

I've pretty much used the same things I did before I was pregnant. Aside from the obvious hair dye and such.

But one thing i DO stand buy is Palmers Cocoa Butter for stretch marks..that stuff has worked WONDERS on my stretch marks!

I used Burt's Bees products when I was pregnant. Just know that organic shampoo doesn't foam up like regular shampoo! I never found a good organic shampoo that was foamy enough for me.

Unlike someone said, everything that goes on your head and your skin absorbs into the bloodstream. Use as many natural things as you can while you are pregnant and especially while your little one is little. We detoxed our home and have gotten healthier, sleep better and medical conditions have vanished. I can explain in detail if you're interested.

Johnson and Johnson products are one of the most dangerous on the market because most of them have a form of formaldehyde in them (a cheap preservative) that is a known cancer causing agent. Even in their baby products. Gerber is right up there with them. If you are shopping in stores, make sure you go to a pharmaceutical grade health store and talk to the employees about which are best. I buy from a company that manufactures very high grade consumables and they are quite inexpensive as well. If you want to purchase online like me, I can give you some help.

Be very careful with things you can just "pick up." Clorox manufacturing natural products in the same facilities (here and in China) they manufacture their toxins unnerves me. I don't know if they have removed it or not but the Burt's Bee's lipbalm had lead in it when I researched it a couple of years ago. Read, read, read and keep researching. Your little one will appreciate it! Mine do.

Regards,

M.

I haven't run into any that *aren't* safe...? Your use of these products is topical (I hope). Nothing is getting into your bloodstream. So I would stick with your favorites.

Burt's Bees products like so many others recommended. For shampoo/conditioner I like Organix (you can find it at Walmart / Target / Walgreens), it is sulfate and paraben free.

Hey there,
Mom after my own heart! I always consult EWG's www.cosmeticsdatabase.com for all my family's personal healthcare products. They rate everything from sunscreens, shampoo/conditioner, soap, make up, etc. for toxicity. I don't buy any of those products before consulting the site now.

Right now I'm using Burt's Bees Color Keeper shampoo and Burt's Bees Shea and Grapeseed Deep Conditioner on my hair. My husband and child use shampoos/conditioners from Beauty Without Cruelty (we buy through Drustore.com). We use Dr. Bonner's Peppermint Soap. All have been rated very low on toxicity by the site. And we've been really happy with the results.

I commend you on making the effort because these products DO seep into your bloodstream through your very porous skin!

i wanted to do this too and i did a lot of research. The Weleda line - for mom and baby has become my favorite. They can be pricy but you dont use very much. For face/body soap, check out a website called planetearthremedies.com - i love this stuff and its practically free for how long it lasts! I use some Epicurian and Burts Bees products, but you have to read these labels - not all are chemical free. As for the house/laundry stuff, we clean with a lot of vinegar and oxy clean. I love this stuff - message me if you have any other questions and congrats on your baby and making the choice to go chemical free!

My favorites are the tom's natural products, they have evrything from mouthwash, to shampoo, toothpaste, lotion... and they are all great safe products.

Ivory products also work very well, and you can always use the johnson and johnson baby products, they now have adult formulas in the J & J products.

I agree w/ Melissa. Other than the sylacidic(sp?) acid in my facial wash, I used everything else normally. I wouldn't go chucking everything you have as I am sure you'll be just fine so long as you are not injesting the stuff.

I love the Melaleuca products. They have shampoos, toothpaste, makeup, and cleaning supplies. They are all really safe and very effective. Even the house cleaning products are better and safer for you to use during, and after you have your baby, to keep the harsh chemicals out of your house.

Sensaria Natural Bodycare's products are intended for the whole family, including and especially for your newborn and you.

No sodium laurel sulfates. No petroleum. No Phthalates. Most are GF-CF. Essential oils and plant extracts for the scents. Made in the USA!!! and there is a one-year guarantee.

I've been a representative with Sensaria for 8 1/2 years now because of what the products have done for my sensitivities and acne and my daughter's allergies and how families of autism have been able to actually use something and they like it.

Burt's Bees....

As an aside: when I was pregnant with both my kids, I still used whatever shampoo/conditioner/face products I was using already.

Me too, I used the same products. The only major change I made was that I didn't dye my hair during pregnancy. It was lovely...

Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy!

I used my same products when I was pregnant and all of my kids are just fine...no health problems, sleep problems, or anything else wrong with them. I also highlighted my hair with both pregnancies and none of them has any strange coloring, extra limbs, third eye, etc. As for all those stretch mark creams....save your money. Stretch marks are genetic...either you'll get them or you won't. I had a singleton at 46 and then twins...at age 51...and don't have a single stretch mark. I never used any special creams. None of my sisters got them, and neither did my mom, even after having 6 kids. It's quite a money-maker for the companies who peddle them, though! Congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy. Don't stress yourself out about every little thing.

Google the Environmental Working Group. They've done studies to determine safe products.
