Our current baby monitor, the Sony babyCall, is on the fritz and we need a new one. I'm not sure if it is going bad because of the numerous falls it has taken or just age (its just 26 months old!). We live in a three-story townhouse in a very high-traffic area and need a monitor that can accomodate lots of interferrence. We are trying to decide between Fischer price and Safety 1st. Any suggestions (except video monitors) would be helpful.

I really like our Fisher price one. Can hear your baby breathe on it. It picks up EVERYTHING, so I don't know if it would pick up the traffic too much, but you can sure hear everything clearly on it. :)

I bought the monitors from Safety First with my first baby and they worked great for a while, but less than a year later, they would go in and out with static, no sound, they got horrible! We had to stick something in the dial to turn the volume on just to hear the baby, and now that doesn't even work! My friend had them and had the same problems! It's the one that comes with 3 bases and 2 receivers. They look good and are great for the fact that you can put the bases in different rooms, and then just use the same receiver by just pressing a button for which room you want to listen in on. But like I said, they only work for awhile! Now I bought the Fischer price lights and sounds and for 19.99 it works so much better! I can hear everything and i don't even have the volume turned all the way up! Good luck!

I LOVE my Graco digital monitor. There is no feedback, you cannot hear cordless calls and has a long range. It's a little pricey at $80 but totally worth it.

We have Safety First. I am not sure they make it any longer but it has two receivers which can be used as walkie talkies and 3 monitors. They work great although recently they seem more static-y than usual. It is model # 08038-TR. We bought ours based on Baby Bargains recommendations. Congrats.

We have the Fisher Price Private Connection Dual Monitor. It has two receivers with rechargeable batteries and about 8 frequency channels...although I've never had to change to a different channel due to static, etc. The monitor is 900 Mhz with range of up to 850 ft. We do not live in very high traffic area, but we do live in a neighborhood where our cell phones don't even work in our own home. However, all channels on the monitor come in crystal clear. The monitor is so sensitive, we actually had to move the base farther away from our daughter's crib (and clock) to not mistake a natural sleeping sound with wakefulness or distress. That can be good and bad, but it is very good once you adjust the base and the volume on your receiver. The volume, I believe, goes up to 10, but I never have mine louder than 1 1/2 or 2 at the most. We have had ours almost a year and have had no problems. See www.target.com for more product info and consumer reviews.
