Need a Place in West Burbs to Hold Retirement Party

a very dear aunt of mine will be retiring in the early part of summer. she has been generous through the years to my siblings and myself and now to our children. i have zero creativity but want to thank her in a very special way. she would never agree to a party so i would have to be a surprise. any ideas besides a casual sit down fare at a banquet hall? if those are only ideas, any places to suggest that would hold 100+ people at reasonable prices? thanks!

What can I do next?

The Flame in La Grange is nice. I don't know how big of a party that could hold.

I'm a big fan of the theme party - like have a mexican fiesta to celebrate her new siesta time! Or base the party around something she'll be doing after she retires - golfing, traveling, knitting, etc! To keep costs down, you could always rent a tent & some tables/chairs and have the party in someone's backyard, or try your local park district or church, they often have facilities to rent out complete with tables and chairs. You and your siblings could each bring some themed food to the event, or you could always cater - my one aunt had some wonderful mexican food catered at my uncle's retirement party. Email me back if you want me to get that info. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I have no idea how it works or what their rates are, but I know the Morton Arboretum has function rooms and you can throw large parties there. Might be fun, since it's the summer and everyone can get out into the Arboretum and explore. There's info on their website.

I would recommend Brookfield Zoo! I have seen other parties there, so I don't have first-hand experience, but I know they do family events in some of the restaurants near The Living Coast. I'm pretty sure you could even do a tented event or cocktails+ in the Savanna Terrace. I'm sure their event planner would have some nice ideas for you! And, its a great, fun venue in the summer--even early summer when its not so crowded and just coming alive for the summer crowds.
What a nice idea to throw her a party. Good luck with your planning,
G.
