Hi all, does anyone have a potty they love? We have potty trained our 10 month old and I am asking for help finding a new potty for her, please no negative comments, this was a decision we made and it works super well for our family. She has outgrown the potty we current have, she is 17lbs but this was for an infant. I would prefer a stand along potty rather than a seat that fits into a toilet and I also don't need anything with fancy noises or anything like that. I would like one that has a little back support and is deep enough that she isn't sitting in her business.
I know there are lots of choices out there but I thought I would start here to see if any of you have a recommendation? Thanks so much for your help!
Thank you all so very much for not only the great potty suggestions but for being so supportive, I really appreciate it! As far as what we did to "train" her, we just started holding her over the potty from about 2 weeks of age. It is what my mum did with me and we would just watch for her signs, she can tell us when she needs to go now which is much easier. We don't catch 100% of her wee but it is so nice not to have poop in all sorts of places! I have heard of EC and know it has worked wonders for a lot of people. We just chose to work it into our diaper changing routine and it stuck so I'm sorry I don't have any secrets or great tips to try. My personal opinion is that I don't think it is ever too early to introduce a child to a potty, regression or not, poopy diapers for 6 months and possibly a slip here or there or dirty diapers for 2.5-3 years??

We have a bjorn potty chair that works really well. It is very easy to clean, doesn't leave marks when DD has to sit for a little while, is colorful and lightweight. Good luck!
The Baby Bjorn potty chair has worked for us very well. Easy to clean, no bells or whistles, and easy to scoot out of the way. I like the plain white color, too (although it comes in pink, blue, etc. if you prefer).
Transition is hard for little ones, getting her used to a big potty now can save you a lot of heartache when she has outgrown the potty chairs. Get a small stool, help her climb up and get a fun potty cover, this takes stress out of pottying at family/friends or in public as you cannot haul a potty chair around. It will save you from extra mess and much more sanitary. She is young, if it works for you that is so great!! I think it is great at her age, I really do, however do prepare yourself for regression if it happens as it is truly about whether their body is ready not just if they personally are ready.
I asked at a new baby store here and was also told the Bjorn. I plan on getting one soon for my 13 month old. I'm not sure that he is ready for it, but I want to be ready for him. :)
Also, for that traveling potty? My sister has one for my niece and they use it all the time. When they drive up to my grandmothers house, they sometimes have to pull over and use it.
Are you doing EC? If so, you may be interested in the yahoo group (it is a high-volume group though). We started elimination communication at 5 months; she's now 17 months. Our daughter has mostly used the one-piece Baby Bjorn, but it doesn't have the back support you're looking for. I do think a separate potty is a good idea. When my daughter started feeling independent, she started going potty better when she was bare-bummed and could take herself to the potty.
Good for you guys! I have two little boys that I wish were ready to be potty trained... *sigh* oh well- We have a little IKEA potty- I think they run you about $5 they're all one piece so it's really easy to just wipe down with a lysol cloth once youve dumped it out. It has a tiny bit of back support (about 2 inches) and it has a raised area in front just incase they're leaning back too much...;) good luck. It comes in several colors too, and if you end up not liking it- you're only out 5 bucks. :)
Holy Toledo, you gotta tell me how ya did that. LOL. I know you want a stand alone, but take a serios look at the bjorn potty that fits in the toilet. We LOVE it. Also, baby bjorn makes a stand alone that has gotten awesome reviews. Just my 2 cents. I am still in shock over the age of your daughter. I had to read 2x! LOL!

I have the large two-piece one. It was recommend from my daycare board and it is wonderful for both boys and girls- shields for the boys and keeps the girls legs open so the pee does not bubble up. I got mine used $8/ $10 and I also have their seat insert and love it as well.
I just want to know how you trained so early. I would love to get my 1yr old going and done. Have you been doing EC? I'd love to know your training tricks/style. Thanks!
I'd recommend one that we got at WalMart (probably at Target also). It is a green frog! Our son loves his froggy potty. We tried the little seat over the main toilet and also another stand alone potty but he didn't like either as much. The frog potty has a high back and a higher front too, so if she wants to hold onto the front (or sides) she can do that also. I like it because it's easy to clean and our son hasn't been able to tip it over yet.

Baby Bjorn! I have three kids so I went through a few potties each, trying to find one that didn't leak and was easy to clean. We bought the baby bjorn potty chair, not the little potty. Totally worth the money! More than met all of my expectations and if we needed another potty, it's the only one I would buy. Happy potty time!
Baby bjorn's potty! It has a simple design, is sturdy, supportive, and all around the best potty I've come across. It is not as cheap as some, but I think it's still affordable. I bought it in green. It also comes in white, pink, and blue.
Congrats on the early training. I wish we had tried EC, but by the time I'd heard about it, DS#2 was already 9 mos old.
At any rate, I'm afraid I have not found a potty seat that I can rave about, and believe me we've tried quite a few. Are you sure you don't want to reconsider the potty seat that goes on the toilet? We got one of those 'family seats' that has the built in little seat. Might not be as easy for a 10 mo old to figure out though. That's been our fave.
Here's what we've tried over the years:
Graco Soft Seat Potty Trainer - This was probably our favorite, but eventually the cushy seat separated from the handle part. This is nice if your little one likes to spend time on it (which my oldest did, and my youngest did not), as the seat is cushy. It's not particularly hard to clean, but I think the regular washings are what eventually did the seat cushion in. There are quite a few similar versions of this out there. Perhaps one that will hold up better.
Primo Soft Seat Toilet Trainer - The seat Constantly separates from the handles, and it's a pain to clean and put back together. Not sure they make a 'girl' version of this anyhow. The seat is not really all that soft either.
Safety First Comfy Cushy - This one was nice too, but I have heard the cusion starts to wear out after a while, which would not surprise me if we had used it more. Pee has a tendency to 'collect' under the cushion, and 'eat away' at the cushion. If you are religious about rinsing it though it would likely be fine. It's easy to clean/assemble, allbeit a tad small (mainly a problem for boys sitting and peeing though).
You might want to try the Bjorn Potty Chair (the larger version), but I can't speak from experience on that one. The smaller one is a hit though.
I agree with Jennifer, LOVED the baby bjorn. I didn't get the two part one. I had gotten one from Europe that is a one piece and sits on the floor. My kids loved them. They would still use them if I let them and they are 5 and 3. Good luck.

We have loved our two-piece, lift-out Baby Bjorn toilet. It's easy to clean, easy to move around as needed, and has held up with two (almost three) kids learning to use the toilet. It wasn't cheap but it's been a great tool.
Baby Bjorn hands down. Not the all in one potty, but the slightly larger one that has a bowl you can remove. No bells and whistles, just very sturdy and well made. My son loves the back and arm rests on it.
Don't know why anyone would give you negative comments. I think its awesime you were able to train her so young. Any advice would be graet. We have a 14 mth old and a 2 1/2 year old. The older one doesn't mind sitting on the potty but never lets us know when he has to go. Its always after the fact and we go and put it in the potty. He loves to flush just not sure how to "go" yet. Also let me know what feedback you get on potty's. The small one we bought is way to small and the regular potty scares him at times. Woudl love to get both done at the same time just not sure how to go about it.

WOW! Good for you! I hear you about the negative comments! I had my fair-share from EVERYONE when I started my 13-month-old and now even the MD is shocked at how well my son did and the fact that he now TELLS me he has to go potty (which he says is the indication that a child is TRULY potty trained...according to a MD of course...I take some of what they "define" as a grain of salt!) I was proud to prove them ALL wrong!!!! So congrats to you as well!
We did the one piece Bjorn and a potty seat on the toilet and didn't care for either (the Bjorn is now our "car" toilet for emergencies), but I absolutely LOVE this seat...

It is inexpensive, holds together well and is a little bit taller than the other seats I found which helps my son get on and off easier! There are really no bells and whistles...you can use the seat on the big toilet as she gets even bigger, so it can grow with her for awhile. I know someone else posted that the chair is hard to clean and get the two parts of the seat back together, and I can't always get all 6 tabs back in, but that hasn't affected the use of the toilet...they haven't all been in since the start. Also, for cleaning, other than spot cleaning with Chlorox wipes and water each use, once a week, I throw it into the shower with me for a big rinse down! Works like a charm! The "boy pee guard" hasn't interferred with the little girl I watch...she does just fine on it too! I do like that eventually I can use it as a stool and that I can take it with me travelling easily and it is easy to empty! I would highly recommend this if you need something for your daughter to grow with her and last her a long time!
Anyway, keep up the good work! And glad you have decided to ignore the "masses" and potty train when it works best for YOU and YOUR daughter!

Oh, also I might add that by about 14 months, my son was able to sit on the big potty with nothing on it and hold on pretty well making it much easier when we were out and about! I would also suggest putting some sticky-notes in your purse for all those automatic flush toilets when she gets to this stage...helps it from flushing while you kiddo is on the toilet and scaring her!
