Need a New Pedi That Knows About ADHD

I think that my son might have some ADHD/ADD problems or some other type of behavioral problem. I have tried to talk to my Pedi and all he tells me is that ADD/ADHD is a cop out for bad parenting. I agreed BEFORE my son- but not now. I need to find a dr who LISTENS and doesn't judge you and also deals with behavioral problems. Even if he DOES NOT have anything wrong, I need to learn how to help him. If you have ANY suggestions...

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your replies!

I am going to see about switching Drs. I have NO experience with ADHD and don't even know that he has it, but I want a Dr that I can feel comfortable talking to about ANYTHING and not feeling judged.
Thanks again!

My suggestion would be Terry Kendrick with Pediatric Associates. They're in the Pediatric Pavillion at Willis-Knighton Pierremont. He is a good doctor and a good person. We chose him before our son was born mostly because we were impressed with the work he does with Shriner's. My son has Asperger Syndrome and we've had nothing but cooperation and good advice from him.

I don't know how hey are about ADHD specifically but I know that I was very happy with my experiences at Midcity pediatrics. We used Dr. Cush John (changed for insurance reasons...I cried) and she was very understanding about issues that we had. As a teacher I can assure you that ADHD is real and not just a cop out. Not all active kids are ADHD and sometimes it really is a matter of parents not knowing how or not wanting to control their child. However, for kids who truly have ADHD they genuinely cannot control themselves and it is agonizing not only for the parent but for the child. It is imparative that children with true ADHD get proffesional help either with medicine, therapy or both and it is important that the pediatrician be supportive. I commend you on standing up for your son and I hope that you do find a dr that can and will help you because there sertainly is help out there.

Line Ave Ped Clinic
But a Ped. can not really diagnose adhd, it needs to be a mental health prof.

Ive dealt with this for 17 years.
