My oldest is now four and I am in need of a good preschool. She has never been in daycare and I am a little nervous about sending her to preschool with perfect strangers. I would just like to her get used to going to school a couple days a week (in the morning) before she starts kindergarten next year. Any sugggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I would suggest either Trinity at University/Gilbert, or Red Mountain United Methodist at Power/McDowell.

My oldest is just finishing up her year in preschool. I too, was nervous about sending her to school with strangers. DD#1 is finishing up at Ladybug Learning Club. It's located at Hope Community Church on Park Village (just west of Val Vista) and Guadalupe. They do teach the children just a touch of religion, but it's so minute compared to everything else they are learning. My DD#1 has blossomed since starting preschool in August. I am still amazed at how her vocabulary has increased, social skills, thinking and problem solving skills, and just in the overall change in her! When DD#2 and DS get to be of age, I plan on sending them there as well.

I really like that the school requires parental involvement, and that they don't mind if I just drop by unexpectedly. If you want to check more into this preschool, here is the Web site:

Good luck!

You might look into the preschool program your local elementary school has. There is a good chance that if you send her there she will end up meeting friends she will be going to kindergarten with. Hope this helps.

I highly recommend Bridges, one on Apache Trail and Crismon; and one on Power and Brown. (I think a new one in Gilbert/ Queen Creek area?) They have morning classes either Tues, thurs; Mond, Wed, Fri; or every day. Very good for education and social skills. Helped my 3 year old become less of a baby and more of a big boy. Very knowledgable staff, all in college in the education field.

Montessori International in Mesa is UNBELIEVABLE. They have very small class sizes and it is an extremenly safe and loving environment. They also have classes all the way up to eight grade at a different location. Hope this helps.

Desert Sun Preschool, http://www.desertsun.org/index.html. My granddaughter goes there and it is wonderful. She is four and will continue on with their kindergarten program. I love it because it is all about the child....they are wonderful. If you are looking for something that stresses academics for preschoolers, then this would not be the school for you.

If you want something Christian based Light of Christ Preschool is great. I have sent my children there for the past 4 years. It is a smaller preschool and the teachers are wonderful. My oldest was really shy and they handled it great. The church's number is ###-###-#### or you can email the director, Kelli Greenlee, at ____@____.com.

Hi M.,
If you haven't heard about the Montessori program, I suggest you might look into it. My son has been attending Tempe Montessori School since he was 18 months old. It taught me how much children are really capable of. They philosophy is based on respect for self, respect for others and respect for environment. At 18 months to 2 years old, he was setting tables, drinking out of real glasses, taking off/putting on his own shoes, dressing himself, etc. The work stations are separated out into language development, sensorial, art, etc.

My son is 4 now and is in the primary class which consists of 3 to 6 year olds. I have had the pleasure of observing the classes and I have seen my son patiently write his numbers up to 100. He was learning the countries of South America and he is already doing addition and subtraction.

By the end of the primary class, he will have been exposed to 3rd grade level work.

Check out Tempe ____@____.com this school isn't convenient for you, search for schools at montessori-ami.org Unfortunately, Maria Montessori never trademarked her teaching methodology, so schools that may not be true Montessori can still use her name. Schools that are true to her philosopy and methods are AMI certified and can be found on the aforementioned website.

Hope that helps. Best of luck!

Both of my daughters have attended Trinity Preschool and Kindergarten. My youngest daughter will be attending the pre-k program next year. They are located on University and Gilbert Rd. It is part of a Baptist church, but you don't have to attend. The classes are kept to a maximum of 15. The pre-K teacher is wonderful. The pre-k class is threem mornings a week. They encourage visitors and parents are wanted in the classroom! If you're interested their phone number is ###-###-#### and the director's name is Cindy Smith. I highly recommend them as they are a great introduction to school work.

My son went to Bridges on Power/Brown and loved it. WE tried everything else and he really had problems with the class size and not getting enough one on one attention. They really have some great teacher too. My sister in law went for a few hours to help (she is a teacher) and she said the ciriculam was really great.

Best of luck to you!

Hi M.~ Have you checked out King of Glory Preschool in Tempe? It is a great school - Christian based, half-day classes for 2 1/2's 3's 4's and Pre-K. They've been around for a long time. From what you've said, it sounds very much like what you're looking for. The website is www.kogaz.org. Click on "Preschool."
