Need a Good Nighttime Diaper

My 7 month old son has been waking in the morning all wet above his diaper. This has been happening on and off since he was born but the past week and a half it has been every night. I am putting the diaper on tight and pointing his pee wee down but he still ends up soaked at the top of his diaper (most times his diaper isn't even full and puffy). This morning I heard him crying and went to his crib and he was dry and his diaper wasn't peed in. I sat down to nurse him and within minutes I felt warm and sure enough, he peed right up his diaper. I think what's happening is since he doesn't pee all night, he has a heavy morning pee as soon as he wakes and the diaper can't soak it quick enough. I am using Pampers and I even bought the Pampers Baby Dry because it's supposed to be their nighttime diaper but that didn't do anything to help. He just moved into size 3 diapers (I moved him up since he was wetting through the smaller ones too). During the day, the Pampers work fine. I can't go buying all kinds of diapers to do a trial and error since they are expensive so I was hoping someone can steer me to a diaper (or solution) that has worked for their son with a similar problem. I need to find a solution soon because he gets so upset when he wakes and wants to nurse but I have to make him wait to change him into dry clothes. Luckily I use a waterproof pad in his crib so I don't have to change wet sheets. Thanks for the help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks for all the advice. I got the Huggies Overnights in the next size up - a 4. At first he leaked through because his diaper wasn't tight enough around the waist - I guess because they are a bigger size (I overlapped the straps and make a 'pocket' by folding the top in), then the next night (well morning) he was dry but fell asleep right after I nursed him and I should have changed him, but I knew he would wake if I did (against my better judgement) and and hour and a half later the diapers just wouldn't hold and he was wet (that was a very heavy diaper). SO... early this morning after I nursed him at 2am, I changed him and he woke up nice and dry. So what did I learn? I overlapped the diaper flaps so they are nice and snug, tucked in the top to form a pocket and a diaper change if he wakes during the night is a must (esp. if he wakes to nurse). Oh and one mom suggested pulling the diaper up more in the front than the back so I did that too. If I see the diaper doublers at Babier r Us, I think I'll pick up a pack to have just in case. And thanks to the one mom for telling me to allow extra room when you use them in a diaper... good to know! Thanks everyone!

Huggies makes a product called "overnights" and I go a size up. I've had good luck. Those suckers can hold a ton! wishing you dry nights and good sleep.

I had the same problems. Luvs worked the best for me even better than pamoers. They are cheaper, they bring more and work better. Maybe he needs a bigger size, remember dont go by the size on the box. My daughter is 23 lbs and wears a size 5 and according to the diaper box she should be a size 4.

I had the same issue with my son. We use the Huggies overnight diapers. I had a difficult time finding in smaller sizes at first so i ordered from diapers.com. But I have seen them recently in wal-mart.

My friend had a similar problem with her daughter. She swears by the Huggies Overnights AND puts in some sort of a liner than she purchases at Babies R Us. She said it's kind of like a thin maxi pad that helps absorb all the urine. This has solved the problem for her.

The one other thing you could try is a wool diaper cover. I use cloth diapers and if you use a really good wool diaper cover..it absorbs any "extra" urine that might leak out. Sometimes, when we are away, I use disposable diapers and I put the wool cover overtop and they work great! Do some research on the internet for "wool diaper covers" Good luck

We use pampers in one size larger than he uses during the day and we add what's called a "diaper doubler." That has helped our little one stay dry. You may also want to try putting him on a potty if he's holding his pee until the morning...I know it sounds crazy, but my mom did that with me and it helped potty train me quickly. Good luck.

I use pampers cruisers. They have always seemed to do the trick. This may sound alittle weird but when u put his diaper on him make sure he is facing down. My son also had this problem and my hubby pointed out that maybe his "little boy parts" werent facing down and he was peeing straight up and out. This was the case.

I used to have the same problem, I use now the pampers cruisers and it works wonders, no more wetting and it's really a snug fit, good luck!

Hi T.,

We have a 2 year old daughter, but when she was about 18 months or so, she was wetting right through the pampers diapers too. So a friend that has two children suggested the Huggies Overnight diapers and they really seem to work well! We still use them now and will probably end up needing them for our second daughter too! Good luck and hope this works for you or him!

HUGGIES GOODNITES Size 4 They work Great!

When my son was a baby i used pampers also. But when he got older u switched to huggies because they seemed to work better and they did.He is now 3 and about to have a little girl any day and i will do the same with her also. Hope i was of some help.Good Luck!
