Need a Good Mechanic in North Marin

Hi! I have a 10-year old car (bought used and still paying for it, unfortunately). I recently took it in for some work and was told that it needs $8500 worth of work!!! First of all, the car's not worth that much, and second of all, it still runs pretty well. I'm interested in finding a mechanic who will help me figure out how to keep it running (at least until it's paid off), rather than just offer the most expensive options. Does anybody know of a GREAT mechanic? Novato or San Rafael would definitely be easiest, but anywhere in Marin or Petaluma would be possible for somebody really good. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

You must go to Maria at Out West Garage in Petaluma. She is the best! Fair, honest, pleasant. Tell her L. Ludwigsen sent you.

My family and I have gone to All-Tech Automotive (Steve Jump) for years. They're located in San Rafael at 10 Woodland Ave. Their number is ###-###-####. They're honest and won't sell you on something that's not necessary. Good luck.

I always felt like I could trust Maria at Out West Garage in Petaluma ###-###-####. She owns the business and is a mechanic and she had come highly recommend from three women friends who all used her. I never had any trouble and always felt respected. (Plus, she has a sense of humor, too!)

McGuinness Mechanics in San Rafael is great! I know the owner and he is very honest and only does what needs to be done.

Mellow Motors in Greenbrae have been voted #1 for years. I use them and they are totally honest. They will tell you the truth and dont try to upsell you.
good luck. Cars arent cheap and it might be worth buying another car if there are so many things wrong with it. Have you been good about up keep? if not, thats where things get worn out and need replacement.
