Hi,
I am in need of a great counselor that works with teenagers (17 year olds)in the Plano area. He is having a difficult time and treading water. If you know of a great counselor that actually can interact and get the kid talking and maybe laughing. I would greatly appreciate it.

What can I do next?

Hopeworks is a great counseling center. Its a ministry of Prestonwood and its located at Coit and Park, I believe. They have great counselors who deal with kids. Hope that helps!

I'm so happy to hear you are willing to get him someone to talk to! Check out his website and maybe you would like to talk to this man. His name is William (Bill) Whitehead and he is in West Plano. Maybe you could talk to him in private first and then make your son an appt. Good luck!

Dr. Ken Wilgus is a wonderful Christian counselor who has done a great job with our teenage son. He is not in Plano but is close - at Campbell and Preston. His number is ###-###-####. Our son felt comfortable with him from the very first visit - it helped that he was male. Best wishes to you and your boy.

In Richardson off Campbell Rd, is Turning Point (http://www.aturningpoint.org) Its a small office run by a husband/wife team. We worked with Ron and he was great, very funny and attentive. When we left one day, he was greeting a teen boy and his mom, and they both looked happy to see him, if thats any indication.
Its really tough being a teen (and being a single mom). Good luck to you, and know that it will get better. :)

My husband is a counselor and has extensive experience working with teens. He was the court-appointed counselor for Cook county for two years working with truant teens. Several of the teens saw him privately after their court-mandated sessions were over.

His name is Richard Yahola.
Phone: ###-###-####

Good luck.

Although not in Plano...close though...I'd look into Lifeworks Counseling Center in Carrollton off of George Bush and Josey Lane in the Co-America building. They have several counselors and I've seen many a teen going. They have a web site. Can't think of it off hand but it is something like lifeworkscc@

On this site you can read about the individual counselors and their expertise...

Dr. Deb Wade is the primary owner, I beleive of this clinic.
