Nausea...Asking All Moms Part II

Hi ladies! I wrote recently about my problems with nausea. I have some more news for you. I am not a doctor but I honestly believe it is my nerves. I was so bothered about something to the point that I vomited and...had a few stomach problems and I felt better. So, I am wondering if I should ask my doctor for some nerve pills or just... I don't know, you guys help me please. Thanks for ALL the responses from the previous requests. Its good to know someone cares.

This might sound weird, but before taking pills, why don't you try some breathing exercises, meditation and/or yoga? When I start having physical symptoms from stress, I found a spot in my house where I can see the trees outside and I sit there and try to ground myself. Also, if you like to read there are lots of good books out about this kind of thing. And I journal, too, when things get really confusing.

Hope this helps. I've seen too many people struggle to get OFF nerve pills later.

You should have your gallbladder checked out especially if you are a chronic dieter or eat alot of high fat foods-fried.You need to rule out physical problems before resorting to anxiety/nerve pills.Also be aware that Xanax is very addictive along with Valium and if you have to do nerve pills you need to try something else and try not to take it routinely;you also might want to be checked for depression which causes anxious feelings sometimes.

Hi M., I've always had anxiety problems, so I know how you feel. If you think you can't control your nerves, you should definitely ask for help, as ulcers are not fun (or cheap). But if you can recognize when you're feeling anxious or stressed, you can immediately start calming techiques - deep breathing, another distraction, singing (it works for me), etc. - and head them off before they get you too wound up. Before you turn to drugs, legal or not, Please try some cammamille or valliarian tea. They are truly calming. Valliarian root is what they use to make valume so skip the processing and go right to the source. Sorry about the spelling!

I would talk to a dr. I have had nerve problems all my life. It was too the point my friends thought I was belimic (sp?). I couldn't go on dates without getting sick and once I lost 5 lbs in a week b/c of my nerves. I was 90lbs at the time. I've gradually learned to deal with some of it but it was the greatest thing to go and talk to my dr and get on some medication. My friends will tell you I'm a different person. Also a lot of prayer and spending time with God has helped and also scaling back at work. That's just my thoughts based on my own personal experience. Hope you find relief soon.

You are so young to have such anxiety and worry to the point of getting sick. You and your baby will benefit greatly if you can work very h*** o* controlling this problem instead of letting it control you. I am a worrier also and have had to make myself STOP because it doesn't solve anything and just makes me terribly stressed (which is a huge medical problem and can lead to other medical issues) and takes away from a wonderful family environment. You need to stay healthy for your baby and they will feel your tension if not taken care of. This will impact how they react to things as they develop and mature. They definitely copy mommy's actions and they learn how to behave from us. Take a deep breath when you feel tense and think about anything that has blessed your life. Start again from that point calmy. If there is no way to control the anxiety, then yes, see a dr.

I would check with your Dr. There are so many different pills out there. One of them may really help you. Us Women have soooo many Hormones to go out of wack! Sometimes we need to get it all back in line. I had to be on Anxiety meds for 6 months when my son was 2yrs old. He is 3 now and I am fine. You know a Therapist or counselor would be good too. Better than meds in some cases. Good Luck.

If you believe that it's anxiety and want something over the counter, try Calms Forte. It's a homeopathic remedy that you can get at Walmart in the vitamin section. It was a lifesaver for me during my move down here and you don't have to worry so much about overdose or it being habit forming. It is powerful stuff though, so follow the instructions on the bottle. I've struggled with anxiety and depression for years and have not been on meds since my baby was born as I lost my insurance soon after, but have been able to cope. If you are that worked up, try some of the OTC ideas first before running to the doctor for a scrip. A support group might be a good idea too.

It may very well be an anxiety disorder but i caution you to seek medications for this as all are short acting & addictive. I highly recommend getting an anxiety workbook and trying to improve your coping skills while decreasing your stressors.. so that the anxiety goes away. But i also want to mention a wonderful antidepressant that helps with anxiety and is non addictive (LEXAPRO). You could asked you MD about it but be sure there is no family history for yourself or family with bipolar and if so.. mention this to the MD. And if you have had some depression then it helps to know that anxiety will accompany untreated depression vice versa. so if you doo not get this anxiety under control with behavior modification and thought therapy... left untreated it could include depression. hope this helps... i suggest a physical first, and then anxiety workbook and maybe Lexapro. hope you feel better soon. -mb

I am the exact same way. I would get sick and felt better afterwards because my stomach was then empty. I have been on Welbutrin for awhile now and it keeps the anxiety in check. I have had anxiety problems since I was a young teen. I don't feel numb or anything, but I noticed a decrease in my panic attacks. Talk to your doc to see what is best for you.

I'm sure it is a case of the nerves and going to the doctor would be a great idea.. she/he may or may not prescribe something to help but also if the doctor is a really good one, they will also give you some ideas about how to manage the stress you have in your life and how to deal with it better. I watch Joyce Meyer on TBN network and she has a lot of great ideas about how to handle difficult situations.

Hi M.,

I had not seen your other posts about nausea, so I'll take a blind shot now.

We've all been through something like this. What seems most important to me M. is resolving the particular problem(s) that upsets you in the first place. This is first and utmost.

It is observant of you to notice your frame of mind at the time this nausea comes on. What upsets you at that moment is the key. You're going to have to change your outlook on things and approach life with more perseverance in spite of difficulties and obstacles.

Nerves can do strange things to the body, to the point you don't know if it's physical or mental anymore. I think you have diagnosed yourself correctly, but you should ask the Dr. for some help, because a good checkup wouldn't hurt.

You didn't tell us what your bowels are in an uproar over. The good thing is that YOU know what it is !!!!! It is over a particular thing (or things). Now, how do you confront and get rid of it? Only you would know that M..

Attack what ailes you head on instead of letting it follow you around like a dark cloud hovering. Don't let it fester so that you depend on tranquilizers to get you through. It won't take the problems away.

Whatever's going on, I know a state of peace and tranquility will come your way soon. Just remember this to shall pass, there's light at the end. You have a great life ahead of you. God bless.

There are a couple of things I will say. First, it concerns me that you feel better after vomiting when you are anxious about something. If it is just anxiety you might throw up but usually people still don't feel well after that; they are still very anxious and even still nauseous sometimes. That makes me ask, how is your relationship with food? Self-esteem? It may be worth exploring whether you find comfort in the vomiting itself in which case you should try talking to a therapist because the vomiting can be very dangerous and you can learn other ways of coping. Even if it is not an issue with food/body image you could probably benefit from a therapist working with you on coping mechanisms. The poster talking about meditation and journaling had some excellent ideas. If that doesn't work I would try homeopathic or all natural remedies that are less likely to have adverse effects on you to "de-stress" and only if nothing else works would I go to the meds. They do have many anti-anxiety medications now that are not addictive but they still have side effects and I am of the belief that meds should be a last resort rather than first. Personally, I have had issues with anxiety and depression myself and have had the most absolutely incredible results from yoga and meditation. Journaling and art (drawing, pottery, any kind that interests you) have also been huge for me. I am not on meds, although I have been in the past, and I attribute that to the skills I have learned in those particular areas. There is a book I read called "Radical Acceptance" by Tara Brach that changed my life and got me interested in meditation. The other activities followed as additional ways to care for myself when in a difficult spot or just to relax after normal day. I am a different person now. The benefits have been amazing. In fact, there is evidence that meditation actually restores balance to a body out of whack (see http://www.dalailama.com/news.112.htm though there are many other web sites if you really want to get into the science of it) I hope you are able to find relief. Yes! I had Generalized Anxiety Disorder and one of my symptoms was nausea/vomiting. There are lots of medications available, definitely talk with your DR.
