Natural Birth for Twins?

Has anyone out there done a natural birth for twins? I had an intervention/drug-free birth with my 2 and a half year old daughter and I'd like to do the same this time around. I just found out that I am carrying twins (I'm due in 3 months) and would love to hear others' POSITIVE twin birth stories.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

I wish my friend TC was on Mamasource... I'll share her story for her since she is not. She delivered twin boys vaginally/naturally and had a wonderful experience. One of them was transverse when labor began but turned after his brother was born. She had to deliver in the operating room (or at least in the surgical area of the hospital) because her doc was convinced they would need to do a C, but everything went well. She wishes she had been more adament about breastfeeding them in the first few days at the hospital (staff kept giving them bottles of formula without asking) but other than that had a good experience. Best of luck to you!!! How exciting!!!

I had twin girls a year ago. I had to have a C-Section because baby A (Lily) was a frank breech and baby B (Ella) was transverse. So, I can't speak to the vaginal birth (I did have a vaginal birth with my son 3 years ago). But I can speak to a healthy twin pregnancy. I found out I was having twins (BIG surprise!) at 14.5 weeks and my sister who is a midwife said the most important thing to a healthy twin pregnancy is consuming protein, protein, protein! I ate about 120 grams a day and my girls thrived. They were 39 weeks - 6lbs and 6lbs 1oz. Perfect and nursing within 30 minutes of their birth (don't let anyone tell you can't nurse twins OR singletons soon after a C-Section!).

Good luck - and rest when you need to. Drink lots of water. And eat your protein!

It is absolutely possible. My sister in law had a vaginal birth with her twin boys. I believe she was induced and had an epidural...but no c-section!

Congrats! I have 11 month old twins and an almost 4 year old. You will have a blast!! I delivered naturally with my oldest and wanted the same with twins. My doc said with twins most OBs deliver you in the OR with an epidural because emergency c sections happen a lot. This was the same with a few friends and different docs. I ended up with a planned C due to breech but a few friends had vaginal deliveries with the epidural in the OR. Though I was anti c-section- I delivered 2 big healthy 37 week twins without complication and we all went home together.

Hi S.,

I have twin baby girls, and they are 13 months old. My 14 week untrasound discovered 2 babies. I couldn't imagine being 6 months along and then finding out there were 2 babies. The 3rd trimester is your toughest, the birth will be your easiest. My positive twin birth story for you ... I labored 2 days (water broke Saturday, the girls arrived Sunday) The excitment of meeting your babies is the best drug out there! This was my first prenancy so I personally didn't know what giving birth was like but I knew a womans body was made for it and I wanted the real deal. My husband and I did not want to know gender before the babies arrived so I just can't say enough how the excitment overrides the pain. Baby A presented first, she was on the right side and in perfect position and weighed 6 pounds 5 ounces. Baby B arrived 2 hours later, uncomplicated and smiling also weighing exactly 6 pounds 5 ounces. We all spent 2 days in the hospital, they nursed from the very begining with big appetites and we all left the hopsital together. Not a single drug on board for any of us. During the delivery I stayed right in my hospital room the whole time with one midwife to catch each baby and family at my side during the pushing.
You are going to do just fine, your delivery will be joyous, and your babies will be healthy!!!!!!
Bless you,
L.

Hi S.,
I just responded about your 3 car seat dilemma.

I had my twins in the hospital (OR room) vaginally with an epidural. I knew I wanted the drugs for pain but I know of other twin moms who have done no drugs (I'm assuming that's what you mean about naturally). As for just finding out you are expecting twins so late in the game. Take the news seriously. I found out with my first set of twins late in the game and I went into preterm labor. Preterm labor is super serious. Keep yourself extra hydrated and take it slow (even with a toddler you need to).

Best of luck.

Hi S., I have boy/girl twins who are now almost 15 months old. I had them in the OR, in case of risk, but naturally, without medication of any kind. I had used hypnobirthing for my son who's now 3.5 and I used the same visualization techniques for the twins. You can do it! If you have any more specific questions please feel free to write to me personally. What a blessing! M.

Wow! Congratulations!
My SIL had a natural twin birth. It was her goal, 2nd pregnancy, and #2 was breech, so she had quite a team that was to be present for their arrival and the dr's were going to try to manually turn baby #2 after the birth of #1.
She ended up delivering them at home - very quickly. The first was unassisted and she caught the baby herself while sitting on the toilet and #2 was born breech 11 minutes later. The girls were fine and healthy and we all feel like it happened this way, b/c hospitals have so many protocols for their own sake of liability that this might not have been allowed if she hadn't been at home.
It is a wonderful positive example of our bodies doing what they are intended to do.
Please have great confidence in where you choose to birth - and you will have your desires!

Best of everything to you!
