Naps for 1 Year Old

How many naps does your 12 month old take? My daughter just turned a year, and recently she's been taking a long (2-3.5 hr) nap 2 hours after she wakes up and then, refuses to take a later nap. I remember with my son, he took 2 naps until around 18 months. It just seems so early to get rid of the 2nd nap. She also sleeps 11-12 hours overnight. She does act very sleepy later in the afternoon, but just will not go to sleep. (80% of the time)
Maybe she's just getting enough sleep?

What can I do next?

Every kid is different. If she is taking that long of a first nap- I wouldn't fight for a 2nd, maybe just some quiet time

My 15 month old nephew goes down at 2-4pm and that's it for naps. I don't remember what my own kids were doing at this age, but you didn't say what time her nap is. If it's a morning nap, maybe try pushing it back to 12 or 1. My almost 3 year old goes down from 1:30-3:30 just about every day and then to be at 9pm.

My daughter switched to one nap, in the early afternoon, by 14 months.

My 1st child took 2 naps until 18-20 months old. My 2nd child dropped her morning nap at 8 months. I would try keeping her up until right after lunch and see if she will take a 12-3 nap or so and then she will be fine for the evening. She may be grumpy for a couple of weeks, but she will get used to it.

We are going through the same thing. For now(transition time) if she gets up earlier(like 7 a.m or earlier)she'll take a nap 2 hours later and I woun't let her sleep more then hour and a half. Then she 'll take her second nap around 3-3:30 until 5 the latest. Then bed time will be around 9-9:30.Usually next day she'll get up a little later(7:30-8) ,then I try to stretch as much as I can to take a nap,so she'll sleep from 12( the earliest) or 1 for about 2-2 .5 h)Bed time around 8.I'd like to do one or another, but it seems that she is not always ready to take one nap yet.

My almost 12 month old still takes two naps. One for about 1-2 hours in the morning and another for 2-3 hours in the afternoon. His brother took 2 naps for the longest time too, and he (now 3 1/2) still takes a really long afternoon nap. I think I may have really good sleepers, though, because all my friends can't believe how well my children nap. So, my guess is she's either going through a phase and will go back to that afternoon nap in a week, or she's already ready to go down to one midday nap.

Good luck! Won't it be nice when we don't have to struggle with sleep anymore? :)

At a yr old my kids were still taking 2 naps , is there anyway you can hold off on the AM nap until later and then see if she will take a late AM into PM nap? That may be enough to get her through the rest of the day until bedtime.

I think 12-18 months is about the age range when they start taking only one nap a day. My oldest was just over 12 months, but my youngest is still not quite ready (he's almost 16 months old). Your daughter is probably transitioning to one nap a day. I would try pushing back the nap, or else wake her up from her morning nap so she doesn't sleep more than 1 hour or so.

My son is 13 months and he has a 3 yr old sister. He only takes one nap a day around 11:30 and gets up at about 1:30. On the other hand my daughter use to take 2 naps tell she was just about 19 or 20 months old. I think that all babies are just different and I would say its just fine that she is only taking one nap. Just have some type of a "relax" time later in the after noon thats what I do with my son Curtis.
