It's funny you mention it because "Alma" is not a common name here in the US and I happened to name my baby girl Angelica Alma (Angel Soul)...I thought it was soooo pretty. I like the way it sounds in reverse too, Alma Angelica.

A names .... Alison, Amabel (spanish for Anabel)
Similar ... Selma, Ellen,
Similar in meaning .. Pallas ... greek for maiden, Maida, warrior maiden

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but my daughter went to school with a little girl named Bailey-Paige. The parents took 2 names of relatives that they wanted to honor and hyphenated them to create a new and unique name. Perhaps you could do the same with Alma.

My daughter is Aurora (it means goddes of the dawn) We also liked Ainsley, Audrey, Aubrey, and Abigail. I babysit a girl named Alora. I know an Audra. I always thought that was neat. I can't think of anything to go with Alma. Sorry.
