Remember that in todays society uncommon names are the new norm, so using an old traditional name is actually more uncommon.

If you are naming her Kailyn, just a heads up that it is not an uncommon name at all anymore.

My daughter is Kaelyn, she will be 10 this month. I had never heard of the name when we named her....not she has 3 friends in her school with the same name.

I agree with AKmom about the traditional names not being popular right now. Kristen has been suggested a couple times, but I really like the name Kirsten (sounds like Keerstin).

We had a boy first and now have a 4 month old girl . . . you are going to love it!

I havent seen a child named Kristen in many many many years. Kim is a bit unusual now as well.

My daughter's name is Kayleigh. I realize that's not unique these days, but it was less common when she was born 18 years ago - I had picked the name 10 years before she was born, when the song was released. One of the origins of "Kayleigh" is the Hebrew "Kelilah" which would be a pretty cool and unusual name. Good luck in choosing!

My daughter's name is Kaci and I know the name may not be unique but the spelling is. We thought Kaci looked more girly than Casey which is why we chose that spelling. She is going into 2nd grade, and we have not come across another Kaci with either spelling!

Just remember that "unique" name you give your child? Might be fodder for teasing on the playground...or when you go on vacation and want to pick up something with her name on it - it won't be there.

Think of the name going into a board room in 25 years....does it sound more like a "dancer" name than a serious name? I know my cousin is named Starla - and when she leads a meeting sometimes? People still "snicker" as they think of some girl dancing on a stage....

Kailyn is becoming more popular, so if you are looking for something unique, I wouldn't use it. Also, most people will pronounce it Kay-lyn, but if you're planning the nickname Kai, that makes me think you are going to pronounce it like Ky (rhymes with eye). No one will ever get it right.

I have always liked Kalani and almost made it my daughter's middle name. I like the sound of other Hawaiian K names too.
