Name That Baby Boy

Round 2 ladies. I posed this question about 3 weeks ago and got some GREAT suggestions for boy names. Problem is, my DH hates all of them. I am at a loss! So, I am trying again, this time with more specifics in the hopes of getting to a name we can agree on!

His rules:

- No names that start with vowels
- No trendy names (ie no Aiden, Preston, etc)
- Has to be a "manly" name - whatever that means!!

To give you an idea of what I love - Elliot, Eli, Emmette, Ian, Ashton, Max, Samuel, Oliver, Will, Wyatt - my DH hates them all. When I ask him to come up with something, he gives me nothing! lol

Help!

What can I do next?

Have you tried the manly biblical names that aren't as common? My boys are Micah and Caleb. Their middle names are secular; they're Dustin and Henry (my hubby calls the little one "Hank the Tank"). I love all of these names. Maybe you could try these on the hubs...

If this goes on too much longer, you might think about telling the hubs that HE can think up names from here on out. I'd get irritated if my hubby kept poo-pooing all of my ideas without offering any of his own! Good luck to you! :)

Oh, I second Dean, it's my father's name and I love it. Other family names are Jack, Robert, Dorian, Scott, Sean, Harold, Gregory, Kevin, William (so many variants) etc.. I also like Levi and Matthias or Elias or Connor or Liam etc...

You can't go wrong with some of the traditional biblical names like:

Matthew
Mark or Marc
Luke
John
Samuel

These are all "manly" names

My boyfriend's name is Michael Derek for his first and middle. He LOVES it because he thinks they are strong names and are manly (he actually used the word manly, so you might be safe).

My brothers are named Brian and David. Both used to be popular, but now - not so much, so maybe he would be ok to use one of them.

My nephew's name is Jack Henry.

I would tell your hubby that you aren't coming up with anymore names until he gives you 5 names that he likes or you will name the baby Harry Potter!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck.

Mitchell, Jackson, Brooks, Quinten, Max, Oliver, Elliot, Kitt

(I know a few of those break your "rules" or you like them but hubby does not...but those were a few of the boys names on our list when were expecting #3. Good luck!)

PS - Sometimes it helps not picking just one name, but have a short list of 2 or 3 of your favorites and then decide once he is born. That's what we did with all 3 of our kids. :)

OK... he knows what he doesn't like, but he doesn't know what he likes. Reminds me of some women and hair styles: "I don't know what would look good on me, but I'd never wear it like that woman does!"

Why don't you get your DH a small (not overwhelming) book of baby boy names. Hand it to him along with a sharp pencil and say, "Why don't you go through the pages and check off any names that appeal to you."

Ask him to do it within a week so the job doesn't get away from him. He won't have to justify what he likes - he just has to indicate it. This may be non-threatening enough for him to do, and surely among them will be a name that you'll like, too.

When in doubt - honor somebody. What is dads, uncles, grampas name? I have mainly women in my family, so naming my son was more difficult. I named my son Isaiah because I admire the book of Isaiah and think that Zaya makes a good nickname.

Hi S., I honestly can't remember whether I answered your post or not, but my boys' names are James Joseph, and Daniel Patrick. My brother's name is Michael Francis, my father's name was Francis William. I also like Thomas, which would've been the third boy's name, or possibly Matthew. I like strong time-honored biblical names.

Coming up with names was ALWAYS the hardest part of all of my pregnancies...so I feel you ;)

"Manly" huh?...How about:
Grant
Miles
Tripp (I love this name)
Cole
Jaxon
Brian (This was popular when I was in school, don't really hear it anymore)
Scott
Daniel
Cyrus
Ben
Wylie (I wanted this one too!)
Coup

My hubby likes "normal" names...I like unique names, I love my name. My hubby's name is Michael David, his 2 boys from a previous relationship are Jacob David and Matthew James...all on the top 10 list for like FOREVER...Needles to say we battled over names:)

I wanted a "Coup" so badly but hubby wouldn't go for it...I tried desperately to convince him it was a real name ( I know it's really not BUT I love it soo much)...but naming my kid Cooper was out of the question, just way too popular for my taste...darn it!

I have a Korbin Shay and a Wyatt Brodie! My Wyatt is almost 6 yrs old and it wasn't anywhere near as popular as it is now, dang it! If I didn't have to compromise with my hubby I probably would have had a Tripp and a Coup!

Go buy 100,000 baby names and give him a paper and pencil. Give him 1 week to go through the boy names and make a list of those that he likes. Don't look at his list, then do the same thing. Compare lists. Just because you both have the name on your list doesn't mean that you have to use it, but it could be a jumping off point. That is how we named my daughter. You could also try thinking of nicknames that you like, and coming up with full names that could use the nickname.

Here are some of our boy choices that our little girl didn't use.
Gabriel - Gabe
Cedric - Ced
Thaddeus (my uncle's name) - Thad
Lucien (my grandfather's middle name) - Luke
Daniel - Dan/Danny
Jacob

I know he doesn't like names that start with a vowel, but what about a more traditional name like Alexander? I've always liked the name Alexander Christopher, I guess it could go vice versa, also...? Jonathon....Jacob.....Joshua.....Anthony, but it's another vowel name.....Sebastian (too trendy???)...Max (you can go with a longer version, but then it gets kinda trendy)...Colton...Timothy....Ryan......ugghh...it's so much pressure because their stuck with this for the rest of their lives....I am so with your husband & no trendy.....if you 've ever went to school & had 4 of you with the same first name in your class, you'd know....GL

My sister had the same situation when her youngest son was born. Her and hubby couldn't agree. She finally took control and said "this will be the name of our son when he is born, if you can come up with something better, I'll listen, if not...this is his name."
It sounds mean, but she got her way. She just figured that she carried him and had been prego for 9 months, so she got the final say!
I have 2 sons, Liam and Maxwell and my sister has 2 sons, Evan and Zachary. Good luck!!!

So, when I found out I am pregnant with twins, I started researching names.... since we're having two girls, I will share my favorites with you.

Boden, Devon, Drake, Mason, Peregrine, Rand, Roland....

Also, a lot of last names can serve as first names as well. My firstborn's name was my grandfather's mother maiden name. Perhaps you'd like to look at the family tree and see if there's any inspiration there.

Maybe Dominick? That's manly but also unique. Ethan is another good name (remind him that that was Tom Cruise's character's name in Mission Impossible!). Ben is a classic name. I know many, many baby boys named Ben, but if you don't mind a very popular name, it's nice. Nicholas is also classic and popular, but nice.

Get a good baby name book as well as a list of the top trendy names and work on it together. You can pick some and he can pick some and then you can go through each others choices and narrow it down. You may also think of combining the first names, middle names or last names of fathers and grandfathers on both sides of the family.
