Hello,
My 3 year son has been an Ok sleeper but lately he has been having a hard time going to bed and is sometime waking up in the middle of the night. I have heard about a clock for toddlers called "my tot clock." It is a clock that has different colors for different times of the day that let your child know when it is bedtime and when it is OK to be awake and get out of bed. The reviews seem very good. I was just womdering if anyone out there has tried it and was it usefull and worth the money (about $50.00). Right now sleep is priceless.
Thank you,
AMS

We didn't have a tot clock, but we had a floor lamp on a timer a couple of rooms away. If the light was still off when they woke up in the morning, our children had to stay in bed. Once the light was on, it was ok to get up for the day. We made sure they could see the glow from the light, but it wasn't bright enough to wake them up. You can buy timers from any hardware store for less than $20.00.

My three year old just has a regular digital alarm clock on his nightstand. He's allowed to get up at 6, so he knows it has to be 6 something, but you could even cover the minutes up with electrical tape or something and just teach him to look at the hours.

I read a suggestion to get a regular clock with a face an paint the sleeping hours red and the waking hours green. So you tell him: it's OK to get out of bed when the little hand is in the green section (and the sun is shining), but not before then. I guess you could paint the little hand a bright color... Haven't tried it myself!

Can your toddler read numbers? We got a regular travel alarm clock and told him if he woke up early that he could play quietly in his room until 'seven zero zero.' He loves having his own clock and if he does wake up early, he usually appears in our room by 'seven zero one.' Good luck

it's called the Teach Me Time clock, & we love it!!! It took my daughter a few days to get used to the new rule, & there have been a couple times that she's challenged it, but other than that it has been sooo worth the money, to us.

Our system is that as long as the clock is yellow it's quiet time in her room. She can play with her dolls, read books, whatever, as long as she's quiet. Then when the clock turns green she can come out & wake us up, or join me if I'm already up. This might pose a little problem when she's ready to go with out a diaper at night & needs to get up to go pee... but I dont think that's going to be for awhile, & hopefully she wont be quite so literal then & will be able to accept the exception to the rule. :-)

Hi A.,

My son is an early riser too. I bought a timer and plugged a night light into it. I set it for 15 later than he normall was waking and told him that he couldn't get up until the light came on. I adjusted it by 10-15 mins every 4-5 days until it was at a more desirable time. He was waking at 4:30 and is now getting up at 6am. Some times he wakes before the light goes on and will play in his crib. I hope this helps! It's a lot cheaper than $50!!!
