Hey y'all!
I am a first time mom of a 19 month old boy. I grew up in Charleston, SC where it is always warm enough to go outside and play. I love taking my son to the park, or on a picnic, but it has been so cold lately that we have stayed indoors. I feel bad that he can't get out and run off his energy. I don't want him to feel cooped up. Does anyone know of a place around here for young children to play inside. Also, any suggestions on how to burn his energy inside the house? we have tried "Mommy and Me" DVD's, but he is not as interested in those as he used to be. Thanks!
~D.

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who took the time to give me all that great input. Noah and I had a blast recently at Chuck E Cheeses, and we are planning a trip to Kids n Motion in the near future. I also found out that the gym on base has a great program for moms and kids, so we are signing up for that as well. Luckily it has been warm the past few days and we have been able to enjoy the outdoors a little bit. I am so glad to have new ideas for next fall and winter. Thanks again y'all, and take care!

hi D.~
i can completely understand your situation. i live in woodbridge and have been going to chuckee cheese and also to the chick-fil-a that has an indoor play area. it seems to help my kids 4 and 2 1/2 burn off some energy. my kids also love to play tag. since they don't run too fast i'll chase them around as a crawl around. they love it! that might be something that your 19 month old can understand the concept of.
good luck to you......

First off D., have faith - it will soon be warm enough to play outside again in northern Virginia. You can still take nature walks in our brisk weather, just bundle up a bit. I live just a few miles north of you in Prince William county. The Dale City recreation center may have some opportunities for you. Also check your county's web site for indoor activities and on base. They really keep up with what's available in your local area.

Hi! I'm also from Stafford, VA. You might want to take your son to the mall in Fredericksburg... they have an indoor children's play area... another option is to join the YMCA... they offer Mommy and Me play groups. Just a thought :)

Hi D.,
I'm a Marine, too, and know what you're going through. I have a 19 month old and a 3 year old. There's a place called Kids N Motion in Woodbridge that we went to once when dad was in Okinawa for a couple weeks -- it kept them BUSY. They loved it, and it was really fun for them. Mosh-ball pit, big blow up slide, etc., but they also have a toddler room for the little ones since they just weren't big enough for the really big jumpy toys. It's a great place. http://kidsnmotion.biz/ It's -- I think $5 a kid to get in. Weekends I am sure are a bear, but if you want to go during the week, I bet it's a lot easier. Have fun, we did!

Hi D.,
I live in Fredericksburg, so I know what you mean. I take my kids to play park in the spotsy mall. When he gets a little older the library is free and they have story time. There is a lot of mommy groups in the area as well. If you don't have a church to attend there is a great one off 610 in Stafford it's called Calvary Chapel. Hope that will be of some help.
