My Son Is Experiencing Frequent Nosebleeds

About 5 years ago, he ran into a sliding glass door, and for about a year after that he had nosebleeds. Then, for the next 4 years, he really had no nosebleeds. Now he is getting nosebleeds again - each time for no apparent reason. It's not a problem getting them to stop or anything, but he's had about 5 in the past month. Is there something I should be doing about this? How concerned should I be?

What can I do next?

I would suggest going to a good ENT. It could be nothing or signs of something that should be taken care of.

I had frequent nose bleeds as a child. They were attributed to being in dry environment.

I always say - A trip to the doctor now is better than a "I wish I would have" later.

I am experiencing the same thing with my 15 year old. All the advice people have given are the same advice that I have been receiving. I don't have a problem stopping the nose bleeds. Since I have experienced it with my older son. People have also told me it's when they are growing. Ent doc told me not to worry unless it gets very bad. I seen sometimes he gets them often and at times he doesn't seem to get them for a while. Two years ago I had one of the nosterils cauterized and that helped. I also was told to put vaseline in the nosteril to keep it moist. My son doesn't use it often but when he gets the nose bleeds he uses it for a couple of days and it seems to help. If you aren't comfortable with peoples advice take him to a Ent doctor to put your mind at ease.

As a child I had frequent nosebleeds.....had to have my nose packed one summer. I got my nosebleeds when I was over heated and or in the dry winter months.
I have a 5 1/2 yr old daughter who started getting them last winter. Had her ped check it out & nothing they could see.....so she told us to do the nose saline solution spray, two squrts twice a day to keep it moist up there.
You should have dr look at it as he may have a blood vessel near the surface inside his nose & the littlest trama or even blowing his nose may cause it to bleed, happened to my sister in law. had it cauterized & she never had any trouble after that...
GOOD LUCK!

Hi - I like someone else had them frequently as a child and also into my teenage years. I still get them on occasion. I put vaseline in my nose every night!! Have for years as this coats the membranes and usually they are close to the surface when you get them frequently so this helps greatly.

Good luck!

It could just be his sinuses. My kids due this sometimes when the humidity is high or during the winter when it gets dry. My Dr. has told me not worry unless it will not stop easily. You might ask your Dr. just to be on the safe side.

Hi D.! I have three kids and they range from 8,6, and 14 months. My son who is 8, gets them all the time and we tell him to Quit rubbing his nose so much and we have him use nose spray called ocean spray. They have it for kids. Christian has active airways and we think he is growing out of it but, when its really dry in our house he rubs his nose really hard and it always breaks this vein in is nose and thats why he gets them! Good Luck?! H. H.

Sounds to me like you need to express your concerns to your son's pediatrician. I think they'd be able to address your questions.

At that frequency, I personally would be calling the doctor. Unless of course he is taking a lot of allergy medicine - I know if I take Benadryl more than two days in a row I get nosebleeds.l I wouldn't freak out or anything, but certainly that is worth a doctors visit

Hi D.. My son also gets frequent nose bleeds. Usually during the night though. I don't know how open you are to homeopathy, but I use a remedy called phopherus for nose bleeds. I usually have to go to Whole Foods or North Star (on 116th in Fishers) to get any remedies.
