Hi moms, I need your help. My 2 year old baby has an eye stye on the upper lid, and I don't know what to do. It's been there for about 3 or 4 days and his eye lid is swollen and red. Do you know if there is any over the counter antibiotic ointment or drops for this kind of problem for children his age? Or maybe some kind of home remedy? Thank you so much to all of you in advance.

What can I do next?

The best ways I have gotten rid of styes are to put warm wash cloth over the eye for a little while and after massage the lid. Putting a little pressure where the stye is at and gentle flip the lid and seeing if it is draining. Then wash your hands. I know some people may think you should not do this but I get styes a lot of the time and my children also get them as well. It works great if you get working on them from the time it first starts. My cousin wouldn't do that on her little boy and he still has a stye that has been there for months. My daughter started getting one and I did this and it was gone the next day. There is also a oinment called STYE , it doesn't help get rid of it but it helps with itchness and redness.
So what happens when it doesn't go away... In my case I got it removed by the eye doctor. It doesn't hurt but you have to stay still. In my sons case when he was two I didn't want them to put he to sleep so I opted not to have it done. It went away eventually but he does have a scar on the top of his eye lid.
Hope this helps,
Leti

a home remedy that has worked for me in the past is:

using a small wash rag and very hot water, soak towel and ring out excess water, place towel on eye and hold there until towel is no longer warm, do this over and over as many times as possible until you see signs of improvement.

another way to get the towel really hot is to get it wet and heat in microwave for a few seconds, but it might be a little too hot for a child's eye.

i wish you the best of luck.

Wash eye area with baby shampoo (the no tear kind)and use a warm compress (i think - i get these mixed up)when he's asleep. The stye is from trash/dirt collecting in the hair shaft of the eye lash. Other than that, there is not an antibiotic for them. But definately check with your pediatrician.

Unfortunately there is no antibiotic over the counter, they do have eyedrops and ointment for comfort. Styes are like pimples in your eyes they'll go away in a few days it they get really bad the dr will have to lance them but only if they are really out of control.
