My Dog Just Had Puppies

Dogs are a lot like humans even smarter - she is taking things away from you that you have more time with. I think she's asking you to be with her and stay with her - she might also feel frightened about being a new mommy as well and is showing you signs that she needs that comfort from you especially if she is young and if this is her first litter.

Sounds like she is "nesting" with items you handle. Please get her spayed when she is ready.

I have never heard of that. I agree with Christine that you should have your dog spayed.

Congrats on the new puppies! Dogs can do such odd things :) I agree w/ the other posters, she will probably stop once she gets settled in with the new pups. Get your dog spayed if that is what you want to do...although I agree most dogs need to be fixed, it is not my place to tell you to do that.

Please get your dog spayed. There is no need to bring more puppies into the world when millions are killed in shelters every year.

Spaying is your decision. Don't be pressured by others. I know that if you get a pet from the animal shelter they make you get it fixed in order to slow down the population of unwanted, unloved, and uncared for pets that are abused or left out on the streets. This should not apply to people who will care for the puppies and place them in good homes or sell them to a pet store. I do disagree with puppy farming, but it doesn't sound like that is the case.

I don't really agree with the idea that she is purposely hiding these items so you will spend more time with her - dogs are intelligent of course, but they really don't have the capability to "plan" and perform certain actions with the idea that you will think XYZ and then act accordingly. Sounds more like nesting. Sometimes dogs that go through a heat cycle will experience "pseudopregnancy" - they are not really pregnant, but will nest, attempt to mother stuffed toys, sometimes even lactate. It's like their hormones get out of whack and having them spayed takes care of that. If it continues, you might want to call your veterinarian about it. Otherwise I would have her spayed when the puppies are around 12 weeks old (they should be totally weaned by then) or whenever your vet thinks it's best.

That is common nesting behaviour. Make sure she is eating well. Putting her short term on puppy food while lactating would be a good a idea. I wouold offer her some treats while trying to come near her, show her you are no threat, do not over bother the puppies. But gain her trust so you can handle them and get you remotes back.

Keep an eye out for signs of infection, uterine infections can spread quickly if not caught early on.

She has very strong nesting instincts. Is this her 1st litter? The behavior should start to slow down and stop once she has settled in with her pups.

she may be doing this because she wants you to sit with her more. I had a cat that used to do this but with smaller things like my socks and sometimes keys. she was just wanted me to pat her more the more I payed her attention more. so just try to give her alittle more love and good luck
