She is 22 months old and she's had a runny/stuffy nose the past few days. She doesnt cough when she's awake but when she goes to sleep she can't stop coughing and its keeping her awake and really upset. Any suggestions what should I do?

What can I do next?

My son gets like that sometimes...some things that I've found that work for him...

(when it's a croupy type cough...)
- bundling up real good and taking the child outside to breathe some nippy air
- keeping the child's head slightly elevated
(not croupy cough...)
- essential oils (peppermint, and doTERRA's "breathe" work well)
- warm shower
- vicks vapor rub on their feet
- no dairy (I've heard this is an old wives tale...but I swear, dairy does seem to make it worse!)
- dissolve a cough drop in some hot water...let it cool till it's palatable...then have her drink it from a sippy cup or bottle.

Anyway...just some thoughts! Hope she gets better soon!!!

It's normal for the cough to worsen at night. Try putting a cool mist humidifier in her room, and nose saline drops. It also depends on the type of cough on what will help. Read a 'decoding the cough" type article, it will tell you what to look for and how to help it:

A humidifier will help your daughter a lot. We also turn on a eucalyptus plug in scent or you can get scented drops to put in the humidifer.

I've also used the baby vicks rub on the chest, back and feet.(I have no idea if the feet part really helps, but it couldn't hurt to try)

We also use a very thin pillow to elevate the head.

Depending on the cough, it could be coming from drainage in her nose. If you can dry it up you should be able to stop the cough, but talk to your doctor to see what kind of cough it is and what you can give her. Keep in mind that cough medicines shouldn't be given to children under 4.

Maybe she has allergies?? My boys started the same then it turned into a cough. Doc said to elevate their head to sleep & put a humidifier in their room. Also try the nasal spray & have her drink lots of warm liquids. Hope she gets better soon.

Sounds like post nasal drip. Elevate her at night, Vicks on the bottom of the feet, you can call and ask your pediatrican if she can have Benadryl, honey, peppermint tea.

A humidifier, slightly elevating her head (my guy started sleeping on a Pillow Pet at 21 months for this reason) and honey & lemon to soothe her cough.

My son use to get that cough and I can't remember the name of it. My doc told me that if he was coughing alot at night, to take him outside to breath in the cold air. It always helped, everytime.
