My Daughter's First Christmas

The Roll Around Drop & Roar Dinosaur is alot of fun. The only other toy I can really recommend for your daughter's age is one of those activity tables. Both LeapFrog and Fisher Price make them. I have the Fisher price one and actually prefer that one. They are good because there are buttons and squeeze things all over for stimulation plus the height is good for new walkers ar those trying to walk. My son was a late walker but could stand against it and play. Other than that, practical is great. Go with a few little rattles or blocks and save some money this year because next year, everything out there is going to seem perfect for her. LOL. My husband and I have noone to blame but ourselves for our toy overload. Have a Merry Christmas.

My daughter loved the Laugh and Learn House, she played with that until she was almost two! If you look at toy websites (toys r us) you can search in age range and that will give you an idea.

I always recomend toys that children will play with for more than a few months!! My kids all love the Fisher Price Little People toys. My youngest now 22 months loves them just as much as my six year old! Can't go wrong with the Little People. We love the city, barn and doll house.

My daughter received "Tad", a Leap Frog learning toy. He is stuffed and he has buttons on his belly that light up. My daughter is three and she still loves that present. Now she sings along with it. great gift that grows with children.

I remember this age.lol Ah yes. Something that I learned is this:

200.00 for a kid cart, but she only plays with the box that it came in, PRICELESS! Good luck!

The little people toys are great. My daughter has a huge collection of them and even though she is 6 years old, I won't give them away because they are classic toys. Kid powered toys are the best because they allow the child's imagination to develop. My son was 9 mos at his 1st Christmas last year. The big hit present was a block cart from Parents. I bought it at Target.

I also recommend one of the activity tables. We have the leapfrog one and my son loves it. He can pull up on it and use it for balance.

We got our daughter the fisher price learning home last year for christmas (she was 9months old) She LOVED it and still plays with it now. It was the best gift she got and it gets so much use!!

Any ofthe little people toys.. they are perfect for her age - 5 , there are all sorts of house.. farms etc...

I would agree with the mom who responded that she'll get a lot and not really understand, but it is nice to do a little something. We always give them a keepsake "Baby's First Christmas" ornament, specifically from mommy and daddy (she will probably get more from other's). Even though she won't understand now, it's pure joy to see their excitement in future years when they get to hang "their" ornament on the tree. Another thought would be a child's Christmas book (we like Little Blessings "Christmas Blessings"), personalized with their name and who it is from in the front, that they can also enjoy for a number of years to come, and then it becomes a keepsake to hand down to their own children. Just some alternative thoughts.

My baby just turned 12 months last month & he loves playing with the following:

-balls of any size (very inexpensive) He crawls around the room 'pushing' and 'chasing' these.
-Busy Ball Popper (We play this one together because it spits balls up all over the place!)
-Toy airplane, or anything with wheels (plays the same as with the balls above)
-Leap frog makes this bi-lingual drum that plays the alphabet when you strike it. He loves this one.
-#1 Favorite: "The Fridge DJ" by Leap Frog. It looks like a radio that has magnets on the back so that it sticks to the refridgerator. He is so entranced by this toy. It sings songs and has a screen of dots that light up with numbers & letters (corresponding to the song).

First child and 10 months old...in all reality the gifts are more for you than her. She's not going to understand and too many gifts can overwhelm her. Have fun with it as you want to, but don't feel you need to do a lot. And no matter what's in the packages, she probably WILL have more fun with the wrapping paper than anything inside, as you mentioned. :) My son just turned one and his absolute favorite thing was the party balloons. Just needed one balloon and he was the happiest kid on the planet. Took him a while to notice the gifts. :)

For my daughter's first Christmas, I cleared out a spare bedroom that we were using for storage and turned it into a playroom for her. She did not know until the day of Christmas that I had done it, and was excited that there was a whole big space to tumble around in!
She also loved plastic "tea set" toys at that age- there are many on the market- just check Walmart or Target, etc. for toy kitchen items. She also like pushing one of those toy vacuums around (the upright kind that you walk behind.)
Speaking of tumbling, she may like a tumbling mat too, or how about learning videos? My daughter was enchanted with TV from a a very young age and I tried to make sure she only watched educational things- try Signing Time videos (teaches American Sign Language and has lots of fun music- try www.signingtime.com, Baby Einstein videos (they sell the puppets too!)
Those oversized board books with the buttons down the side were a big hit too, as well as a toy phone that made sounds when the buttons were pushed (we had a Blues Clues one that I believe came from Target.)

I would not invest too much money, as everyone has said- I'm sure family and friends will totally spoil her with gifts and you'll be shoveling through them by January! :)

Last year for my second son's first Christmas we got him a car seat from his big brother and a Lamaze honking dog we saw when we were out shopping and he giggled for hours at. I would take her to a toy store and find something that catches her attention, but keep it simple. You will get plenty from everyone else. One of the coolest toys that friends gave him is a dog from Fisher Price that sings and identifies body parts.

Because we had so many toys from our first, "Santa" wrapped several of his old toys and gave them to the youngest. Then it looked fair from the older one's perspective. He was 5 but didn't recognize or remember many of the old toys.

The Little People Learning Zoo has been a big hit with kids around that age, from what I've seen. My daughter also got the Little People Sweet Sounds Home for her 1st b-day and she loved it. Or a big stuffed animal. My daughter got a Pooh Bear that was the size of her last Christmas and she LOVED it. In the end, she's not really going to understand much of the whole Christmas thing, so less is definitely better at that age. My daughter was 13 mos last Christmas and really didn't understand why she had all those new toys all of a sudden, so she went to find her old favorites instead... :)
