I have a question about my 18 month old daughter. Two days ago we were sitting in the kitchen eating grapes (cut up small of course) and all of a sudden my daughter started throwing up. She threw everything up she ate that day. This was not just spit up, but actual throwing up. I automatically assumed she must be getting a stomach bug. I gave her a bath and watched her for awhile and she appeared to be perfectly normal acting. In fact, after her bath she was asking for something to eat again. She did not have a temperature and did not act like anything was wrong with her. Now last night we were eating dinner and she did the exact same thing. What is going on with her? Again, she did not act like she was feeling sick and returned back to normal after she threw up. And this morning she was just fine too! Is this something I should be overly concerned about? I was thinking maybe she just ate too much. Most of the time she is just a nibbler and then sometimes she pigs out.
My husband took the day off work today because he was very concerned about his Little Miss Mali....I unfortunately had to come to work. Anyhow, he called me and said she is now having very "messy" diapers. BUT she is still acting okay. It appears from the responses I am getting that this may just be the stomach bug. So do these "messy" diapers go right along with the stomach bug? I am in for one fun weekend! My poor sweet baby. Mommy is worried.
Yes, "messy" diapers and vomiting are the usual signs for the "stomach bug". A lot of children act completely normal except for those things. It's amazing how they just go through it- we adults act like such "babies" when we're sick, don't we? The babies often act like nothing's wrong. Weird. Definitely don't force her to eat.
Same thing here. My little girl had her turn about 2 wks ago & then hubby & I were sick the following weekend - thank goodness she was w/her grandma that weekend. Throwing up for about 2 days then messy diapers for about 3-4 days. Remember the pedialite & water & grapes will actually give little one's diarrhea - so no more of those till she gets over this. Just keep her hydrated! It is crazy how they can be running around & bouncing off walls one minute then throwing up the next & all sad and looking like they feel run over! When adults get sick we are laid up in bed the entire day/week & can barely see straight!
Prob. is a bug with your update info-my daughter did the same thing when she had her stomach bug-she would play, thow-up, then continue playing and even want to eat (and of course she would want the foods not good on a sour stomach). If we weren't right there when she threw-up, we would have never even known she did it at that time!
But something else to consider for future reference-kids' gag reflex is stong. It can cause "up-chuck" by not chewing food well enough or even allergy/cold/post-nassal drip/drainage can cause some children to throw-up. The drainage issue has caused my daughter to vomit once or twice as well!

a stomach bug is going around.. my little guy has it too. he doesnt seem to be feeling terrible until he starts throwing up. i'd say just watch her and try to keep her hydrated.
My daughter would sometimes cram too much stuff in her mouth without swallowing and actually trigger a gag reflex. Really gross in a restaurant. But it happens. Then she's hungry and want to eat of course. It helps to remind her to swallow, take little bites, etc.
I would have her seen by her doctor...it may be a stomach bug but could be something else as well.......my point of view comes from having a child with reflux and one with type 1 diabetes.....good luck!
I think it is a stomach bug too. My two youngest girls have been doing the exact same thing. Throwing-up once or twice a night, then nothing else until the next evening. They have also had loose stools, but otherwise are feeling okay. It's kind of crazy if you ask me.
It has to be some kind of stomach bug. My two year old did the same thing and then started to have messy diapers that lasted two weeks. We took her to the doctor and they did cultures on her stool, but everything came back normal. She did not eat hardley anything for almost a week. The doctor told us to put her on the BRAT diet which helped out. My mother who is always looking for alternative healing told us the give her tea to drink which we did and it helped. I know most people do not want to give there children tea, but try decaff. I really thought she had some sort of parisite, but I guess it was just a very long bug.
Call your doctor's office and talk to the nurse and see what she says. Maybe it was/is food poisioning since it happened so quickly.
I would echo the taking her to the doc, but suspect it's just a virus.
Also, once kids throw up...their tummies need rest. After a half hour or so, a tablespoon or less of Pedialyte or something like it...see how they tolerate it...half an hour later, maybe 2T, etc. If she's throwing up and having diarrhea, the most important thing to focus on is her fluid intake.

My two oldest sons was throwing up like that. They were feeling fine and wanted to eat, but when they ate they would throw up after. So my hubby took them to the doctor and I thought they had a stomach virus, but they didn't it was strep throat! Their doctor put them on antibioctics(sp) and they were fine. So be careful, and I hope your baby girl gets better soon! =) Take care

She could have an extremely sensitive gag reflex. I would just keep an eye on it. If it persists you might consult your physician about acid reflux. Some children have it.
If she's back to normal, just keep an eye on her. But you should write down these incidents and if they continue to happen, call the doctor. Otherwise, mention it the next time you visit the DR. While it could be a stomach bug or something common, you never know whether it could be symptoms of something more serious or less common. Keep the DR informed.
Unfortunately, I had two projectile vomiting children last week that did the same thing! I would only suggest this...try the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) for a few days and slowly introduce normal foods after a few days without vomiting. My son ALWAYS acts fine - runing and playing, etc. even when he is VERY ill. Good luck and let us know how she is doing in few days! Hopefully it is just one of those nasty fall bugs! Oh yeah, also remember to get your family flu shots!
