My daughter is developing rather quickly. She started her period last January and I have noticed that one of her breast is bigger than the other. Is this normal? I know I should take her to the doctor but I am in the middle of her insurance being cancelled and restarted so I feel helpless for her. The only thing I tell her is that maybe the other has not caught up with the rest of her and not to worry because she is still young and growing. Should I worry?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. I too started at the age of eight years old and it might be hereditary because my mom and grandmother started at the age of eight. My daughter who is nine hasn't felt any discomfort but she notices the difference and I try to tell her not to worry. Things will balance out and then she wont want them anymore. So to everyone THANK YOU!!

from experience I myself developed quickly and my right boob was developing bigger then the left. It wasn't noticeable to much to me at first, then my mother took me to the doctor. She had explained to me that this was normal and happens to girls who develop fast. Not to worry. several month later you wouldn't even had known I had that problem. You have done the right thing in letting her know she is fine, she will be . From experience .

Just to help out with the comment that Stephanie made earlier...
I started develping my breasts shortly after my 9th birthday. I got my period the first day of 4th grade, right before my 10th birthday.
When my breasts started 'budding' I was terrified that I was getting cancer. They were lopsidded, tender and embarassing. As it turns out I was fine and and now sport an even pair of 34D's.
I'm 23 and have a hubby and two kids, so I really wouldn't worry!
Hope that helps!

No No don't worry at all...this is feel is normal and if she is still growing then it might be possible that this is due to some hormonal changes...So don't worry try using some breast firming cream like clevastin that contains all natural and safe ingredients..This cream is good as its ingredients are clinically proven and also good for breast growth...So start using it and know more about it at:

I got my period at 9 also, It is the lower limit of normal so don't stress. I must say that it was really hard in school because I had acne and all that years before everyone else. But tell her not to worry those who made the most fun of me paid when it was their turn. It could have just been me wishing but I think they had worse acne and akwardness than I did. It is very normal for one breast be be larger than the other. I don't know how much of it is related to having earlier periods but I went on birth control at a young age to help control my periods and pain and developed fibroids earlier than average women also. That could just be my genetics though

None of our bodies are symetrical one arm is longer than the other one foot is big than the other one boob is smaller than the other it just shows more in some people than in others there is a great possibility that the other one will catch up and you will see no difference but there are some rare cases where some breasts are whole cup sizes different it can of course when a woman hits of past puberty age get plastic surgery to corredt it but until then she can get a prothesis like the curves silcone inserts. There is nothing wrong with her it is just lovely mother nature.

As my breasts greaw one became larger than another and they stayed that way. There's nothing wrong with them, it just happens...it's normal and more women have lopsided breasts than you'd think. Also, to add to that, a mans testicles are lopsided as well, one always hangs lower than the other. Just teach her that it is normal and many womens breasts develop that way and there's nothing to worry about. I used to sweat about it all the time until I met my husband. My husband was actually more familiar with the fact that lopsidedness is common in both men and women and he is the one who helped me to be comfortable about my body.

Don't worry you are doing the right thing. I totally agree with the other mom, most average women have one breast larger than the other. I would just try to keep up with her self-esteem and be very positive with her. Most girls her age are very concerned with their bodies and self-image. Just tread these waters very carefully. Best Wishes

I don't think you have to worry. Every woman has a breast that is bigger than then the other. Some might be a slight difference while others or a little more noticable. And don't worry about her developing quickly because everyone goes at their own pace. I wouldn't really worry about it unless it starts to hurt her.

I would definitely take her to the Doctor, I have never
heard of a child starting that early on there period and
now her breast, I would take her in for a check up!
The earlies for a period would be 12 or 13 yrs. of age
not 8...........

It is within the scope of normal for your daughter to currently be lopsided. If she is feeling tender under the armpit of the less developed side I would take her to a massage therapist who is used to woring on children and is trained in lymphatic drainage. This could help resolve the issue sooner.
Relax, it's all ok.
Take care,

I TOTALLY disagree with Stephanie's comments. Do some research and you will find that statistically, girls are starting their cycles at younger and younger ages. The AVERAGE age today is around 10-11. This had much to do hormone enhanced and processed foods, etc.
Do NOT worry. That will only stress your daughter out more.
Find a bra pad insert that she can use for now, and be positive about it catching up.

Sorry, I just have to throw my 2 cents in...

It certainly does seem like girls are starting their cycles earlier and earlier. So very much seems the norm to me. Most women have one breast that is bigger than the other whether they notice it or not.

I would treat her to a pretty bra and a box of tissues and watch a cute movie ( 13 going on 30 where she stuffs her bra, but mom takes it out comes to mind-) and make it one of those silly little things that happens to us in life but generally evens itself out over time..
