My Daughter Is 7 Months Old, but No Sign of Teething?

My daughter has been giving us signs of teething (such as nibbling on her index finger, putting her tongue between upper and lower gums and making a chewing motion) for at least 2 months now. I am anxious to see her teeth break. When will this happen? Most sites say it happens between 4 and 7 months. She has already completed 7 months! Is this normal?

So What Happened?

Thanks to you, Ladies. I am so much relieved now, knowing that my daughter's teeth will show up some day and that she will have the beautiful grin I am waiting to see.

My daughter had her first tooth break through ON her first birthday, and my son had his first tooth break through at 14 months.

Dont worry about it. Some people say that the later the teeth come in, the stronger they will be (in that case, my son will be able to move a train with his teeth). Again... who knows really what is true, but I wouldn't worry about it.

The longer it takes the teeth to come in, the stronger they will be when they're an adult - the sooner they come in, the more problems they'll have. So wait it out! Both of my children did not get their first tooth until 9 months.

And yes, they can drool and show signs of teething 3-4 months ahead of time.
Good luck!

The longer it takes for your child's teeth to "cut", the stronger and healthier those teeth will be. Don't be worried (its certainly not a developmental issue), be glad!

I'm sure that you'll get all sorts of responses, but my niece turned a year without any teeth, and she is now 17 with a full set of beautiful teeth. :) I think your daughter is perfectly "normal." Good luck.

Hi A.,

My son didn't cut his first teeth until he was about 11 months. He seemed to be teething, like your daughter, but the actual teeth didn't come out for months. Once one popped, he had 7 in a matter of one month.

My nephew, on the other hand, started getting his teeth around 5 months. At our 6 month pediatrician appointment, I asked about this & the doc's answer was simple: he will definitely get teeth. :) He wasn't worried in the least & it was a relief to us.

Don't worry. They will come in their own time.

Hope this helped! Good luck.

Don't worry kids all teeth at different times. My first had all her teeth before we knew it. My second is taking his time. He is 16 months and still is teething. Every child is different. Don't worry they are coming in they just might not be ready to show themselves yet. They could all come in at once as well. THat happens. Don't worry your little one is fine.

My family teased me relentlessly because my daughter was "teething" for months. she broke her first tooth a couple of days before her 1st birthday. she finally got her last tooth on her 2nd birthday. don't sweat it - i have been told the later they come in the longer they last and that is a good thing. My daughter ate everything that kids with teeth were eating, my doctor told me that if you can break it between your fingers they can mash it with their gums. Good luck.

Our son always drooled a lot and got a rash on his bottom whenever a new tooth was erupting. It's any guess when your daughter's teeth will come in, but they will indeed come in. : )

Our 12-year-old's first tooth came in at 8 months. But, at 12, he is almost two years behind many of his classmates regarding teeth coming in. It's just the way each individual body is. Enjoy! Those toothless grins are so cute!

P.S. Some mother's have problems with biting once the teeth erupt. But that's individual as well. I nursed our son till he was a year old and only got nipped a couple of times. He quickly learned to be gentle with the nursing.

It's perfectly normal. My daughter had her first tooth in her 12th month! Now in her 15th month she has just as many teeth (6) as her peers. They all catch up eventually.

Not to worry. My daughter didn't cut her first tooth till she was 9 months old and has been slow cutting all the rest. She had two teeth until she was 1 and then the top four cut through about the same time. She is now working on her seventh tooth and is 15 months old. The range of normalcy for children is so big -- don't worry about it.

Also, don't hold off on "solids" until she gets teeth. There are plenty of soft fruits (bananas, canned peaches and pears) and cooked veggies that she can eat without any teeth at all. You still need to make sure she is getting proper nutrition, regardless of having teeth.

Good luck!

Check your and your husband's baby books (if you have them) to see when you got your teeth. It seemed like my son was drooling and teething for a long time, but he didn't get them until 11 months. I checked and found out that neither I nor my husband got teeth until after 10 months. My daughter is just now getting her first one at 11 months too.

Totally normal! Some 1 year olds still don't have teeth. But all kids have teeth by kindergarten.

Surprisingly, not having teeth doesn't really interfere with eating most solids.

One of my children got teeth at 7 months and the other at 8 months. Yeah, don't rush it. The dentist told us it's better later. There is less chance of decay during young years when they can't care for them well enough (or as you'll find out, won't open their mouth enough for you to brush for them, etc.).

My three boys got their first tooth at 7 months. My daughter just turned one on April 24th and didn't get her first tooth until a week later. She already has three now. I know it's frustrating waiting for it to happen, but they will come in, probably one right after another. My mom had a brother and sister in her daycare who did not get their first tooth until 18 months. They were both fine, beautiful, healthy teeth. Just like everything else with kids, they are all different. Don't stress about it :)

Very normal. My son didn't cut his first tooth until around 9 months. He had signs of teething...like drooling, for months! After his first, they came in in an odd order, and at 21 months is still just now having his canines come through. There really is no "normal" when it comes to teeth. :-)

Any timing is mostly normal with babies. They march to their own internal drums.
I have seen babies who did not cut teeth til 15 months and later.
I had one born with two teeth, one that cut two at seven weeks and two more at three months.
I had one who had no teeth til eight months.
Sites are giving you an average. In order for there to be an average there has to be an early, early date to expect teeth to errupt as well as a late, late date. Then there can be a mean average. All numbers within the range are guesstimates and all normal.
If she is doing all this nibbling/chewy stuff then she is likely starting to teeth.
Not to worry dear. Trust me in this, she will cut teeth.
Try not to borrow things to worry about ,yes?
Best wishes and God bless

Very normal -- everything baby related is truly a range, every kid is different. Neither one of my children cut their first tooth until over 11 months old. The dentist actually said this was really good -- their baby teeth will be stronger and late teethers will also lose their baby teeth at an older age as well so they will be better able to care for their adult teeth.

My daughter didn't get her first 2 lower teeth until she was 11 months old. She didn't get any others until she was 15 months old. As her doctor says they come when they come and you can't do anything about it.

Enjoy this time with the toothless grin. Take lots of pictures. Once it's gone it's gone and you never get that baby look back.

Good morning! Not sure what the other posters had to say but my kids were across the board with teething. My oldest didn't get her first until she was a full year old! My younger two started around seven months. What's comical now is that my older girls are losing the same teeth at the same time now - the Tooth Fairy is busy and broke! :)

Both of my children were very late teethers and I was anxious as well. My first son was walking before he got his first tooth which didn't show until almost 11 months. And he was also eating a lot of table food by then. My baby now is 7 1/2 months and just got his first bottom tooth over the weekend. They will come. Every baby is just different. I remember my friends children getting theirs around 4-5 months and I was shocked when mine didn't come so late. But I just look at it that it keeps them a baby for a little bit longer because it goes by so fast!!!

My second daughter didn't cut any teeth until she was 9 1/2 months old. Her pediatrician wasn't worried, so I tried not to worry either.
When her teeth did start to come in, she got 4 all at once! Made the teething process easier since she got it out of the way quickly.
I have heard that the later a child's teeth come in, the less tooth decay they experience. Maybe because of the lack of exposure to breast milk or formula. I can say that my now 4 1/2 year old has never had a cavity. (and she's not great about letting us brush her teeth)
I don't think you should worry just yet. Of course we moms like to worry, but this should be fine.

A., totally normal!! My daughter started teething late and is now 18 months and just got her one year molars...the dentist said that is fine she will just probably lose teeth a little later. I think she broke her first two at about 9 months. Also, her teeth are kinda small but are well placed apart. We as mamas need to keep in mind that all our little bundles are different and that these time lines are guidelines...sometimes our worries take over though. B.

Hi A.,

I don't believe there is a need to worry each child is different. The 4-7 is a guideline and as we all know kids will surprise us everytime. My daughter didn't get her first tooth until she was 11mo and the doctors were tracking her growth and running test. She is now 13yrs almost 5ft with a mouth full of teeth and perfectly heathly. So don't worry... Wait until she starts dating :o)
