My Daughter Has Dandruff! What Shampoo?

My poor baby-she's 5 with coal black hair and has DANDRUFF! She is complaining about her scalp itching and scratches it constantly. I need to know if there is any type of shampoo that is the best along with something that will get rid of the flakes. Do I comb it out like you would lice? Anything would be helpful, I would like to do it tonight.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

OMG! It's not Dandruff-LICE I did a little research this morning and called the school nurse. She pulled both girls out of class for me and confirmed it. Oh I feel like such an idiot. I had no idea what lice looked like-do now! Thanks for your help

Are you sure it is dandruff or just really dry scalp? I thought my daughter had it, but when I took her to the doctor they said it was just dry scalp. I started using conditioner on her and it has gone away.

maybe try an alternative shampoo without bad chemicals.
Shikai Hair Care or Aveda are a couple

i would try selsun blue medicated, but also i would use a very good deep conditioner, because if she is scratching & has flakes it is dry scalp & needs to be moisturized.

My daughter started getting dandruff around age 4. We have to use dandruff shampoo every time she showers or it comes back. We've used Head & Shoulders & store brands. We're currently using Herbal Essence's dandruff control shampoo, which smells really nice. All have worked just fine. We do use a conditioner, but not a dandruff control one.

In addition to Neutragena T-Gel or Selson Blue Medicated shampoo, you need to use a conditioner for dandruff also. I read that if you use regular conditioner after using dandruff shampoo that it washes out the medication from the shampoo. I've used Head & Shoulders conditioner, and it leaves my hair even softer than most regular conditioners. HTH!!
