My Child's Favorite Toy

I am trying to decide what to buy my son for Christmas. He will be about 18 months in December. I was wondering what your child's favorite toy is/was at this time! Thanks in advance for your tips!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you everyone for the great ideas! There is just SO much out there, this really helps narrow it down a bit :-)

There are a couple of toys that my son got when he was 12 mos. or 18 mos. that he still plays with even though he's 4 1/2. One is a tractor that has a farmer and five animals in the back. The lights work, the tractor will move forward, the animals fit into the truck bed like puzzles and even make their own sounds when pressed, and when you press the farmer's seat the song "Old MacDonald" plays. It's a cute version of the song. Even my daughter (18 mos.) likes this one. My son used to have to have the pig and the lamb with him when he went to bed! The other toy is a transport truck that carries 4 different colored cars. It has an on/off button, makes car and truck sounds, has a cute announcer that greets the child, "Hello Little Driver!" and has a color game and counting game. My son puts his matchbox cars in it and plays with it still.

Catalogue Constructive Playthings has the Talk and Teach Transport $25

Catalogue Young Explorer has the Funtime Tractor $30 (Award Winner Toy)

My son LOVES his Leap Frog's refrigerator alphabet set. It becomes the favorite toy VERY fast...which is good because you can actually watch learning take place! It is AWESOME!

Can you tell yet what your son is in to? My son, now 3, was never big into "transportation" (cars, etc) but loved the mega blocks farm at that age(comes with a farm, blocks, tractor, farmer, pig, cow, chicken). now my daughter is 17 mos and she is enjoying it. the leap frog fridge set as mentioned below is definitely a good one. my son liked it when younger and still loves it, and my daughter enjoys it, too. musical toys are always a hit too.

Well my son is 3 yr and my daughter is now 18 mo.
He liked to play with cars and my daughter who is 18 mo
plays cars with him. I just make sure there toddler safe.
They like the Little People and they come with cars safe for them and have a garage.

Music is another popular. Leap frog and V tech some some good learning toys.

I buy my daughter who is 3 toys according to what she likes. She is a big ELMO and Sesame Street fan.So I always buy her movies or whateva new toys Elmo has out.I just recently bought the TMX Elmo(very hard to find) and I cant get her to put it down.Alot of people had good suggestions, I also think you should see what he's more comfortable playing w/. I love the fisher price site I order online atleast 5-6 times a yr. Take him to Toys r' us and let him explore a few toys. The one he wont put down will be the right toy for him :).

Anything noisy with bright and colorful lights - idealy that has moving parts too

LeapFrog's alphabet refrigerator magnet set. Like $15 at Toys R Us. She's not yet 2 and knows pretty much the whole alphabet. Also her wooden blocks with the shape sorter lid.

little people garage. Also very popular when they get older.
(thomas) train with tracks. Also stays very popular when they get older.
