My Baby's Room Is COLD!!!

The cold room is usually due to bad duct work. The heat is not circulating to the baby's room, and should if everything is installed correctly. I would first have that checked out before buying thick curtains. Also, Kleen Air will go out and check your house for leaks in your windows and doors. It used to be free(supplied by Texas energy companies), but i'm not sure anymore. I hope one of these ideas work for you...

I had the same problem and even called America Home Shield. We actually have the older vent shafts that run through the house. He told us to play with the vents in the other rooms closing them a little more and making sure the vent in my daughter's room was open all the way. Of course her vent was open all the way, but closing the others a little bit made more of the warm air go in her room. So if you have the air vents like we do, I would start playing around with the vents in each of your rooms to make more air target your daughters room.

My daughter's room is the coldest in our house, and we bought the insulated curtains and everything too. It helped a bit but not enough. We had someone come out and look at our heating and cooling system. We found out the duct going to her room is curved because it is the closest to the cooling/heating unit. The idea was this would make sure the air got back to the other rooms, but it really just made her room cold. We are using a portable heater in her room until we can aford to get a new duct put in to her room. It doesn't really cost anything to get someone to come check your system so you might want to look into it. K.

I use to have the same problem in my last house and we just used a portable heater. I freaked out a little at first but it was fine. I just kept it on a low setting away from the wall and away from everything else!! =) I have no idea what you could do for the window. Maybe if you go to a fabric store they could make you something custom. Good luck.

Hi there! You should have your windows checked. We had the same problem in several rooms of our old house and ended up finding out that the sealant (sp?) in the windows was bad. We had to replace the windows which solved the problem and wasn't that expensive. I'm sure we saved what we spent getting the windows replaced on the AC bill. It really is pretty common, but usually the last thing people check. Good luck.

Check your insulation. We had a cold room when we built our house and did not understand why. Hubby went to the attic and it hardly had any insulation at all. He installed insulation and everything is perfecrt now.

As for the window, it sounds like you might have to have something custom made.

We have the same problem in our 2 year olds room. We bought heater from Lowes for about $50. It goes in the room, and works great. It oscillates, has different heat settings, and there is not fire risk. It has been wonderful!

You will probably have to get something custom made for that window. That is probably why the room is so cold...and probably warmer in the summer.

One thing that might work is keeping the baby's door open at night...that will help the warm air go in. Even it is just opened before the rest of the family goes to bed.

Another thing you can try is to have a warm mist humidifier in his room. My son has a stuffy nose so I was putting the warm mist humidifier in his room at night and at naptime...when I go in there to get him when he wakes up, his room is nice and cozy. If you do that, then keep the door shut so it keeps the warm mist in.

I have my son (6 months old) wearing those fuzzy footed PJ's that zip up AND a heavier sleep sack. He seems to be fine with those and the humidifier

Everyone should have some portable heaters in their home in case the central heat goes out - it can take days to get repairmen out. I have used portable heaters for comfort for years; they are much improved now; they automatically shut off if tipped, etc. You could put it in the hallway or the bathroom and just aim it toward your baby's room. Be sure there are no clothes hanging near it etc that might touch it and catch on fire. otherwise they are fine.
