My 9 Month Olds Cough

What can you do for a 9 1/2 month old who has a cough?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Well i ended up taking my daugther to the doctor on monday and he said she was just getting over a cold and the drainage from her nose down her throat was causing her to cough. He said to keep doing the baby vapor rub and benedryl every 6 hours if needed. Thanks for all the help!!!!

I have always heard to rub Vicks vaporub on their feet before bed and put socks on - on their chest also, but for some reason putting this on their feet seems to work?!

Well...
you could take child to the doctor. Try putting a humidifier in the room
But, if you are sure it's just a cough and not a cold you can give over the counter cough syrup (traiminic is usually the recommended). Since child is under 2, look at dosage for 2 year old and give between 1/4-1/2 of that dosage. When I say between .25 and .5 of dosage I mean look on syringe or cup that comes with med and fill it until it's between the .25 and .5 lines.

My son was born in Mexico and I learnt to rely on some rather odd healing practices. Try slicing a raw onion and placing the slices in an open tuperware/bowl underneath the bed or at the head of the bed. It isn't nearly as stinky as it may seem. My son is now 7 and asks for me to put an onion under his bed when he is congested or has a cough. Good Luck!

I now lemonaide is real good. What it does is cut the cold off of your chest. That is what I gives my kids.

Our doctor said make sure they get plenty of fluids.

I have tried the Vicks Baby Rub on my 2yr old son and 4yr old daughter and it works! I rub the bottom of there feet with the vicks and cover with socks at night, then the next morning I remove the socks and wipe the vicks off. I'm glad I tried it!

I am scared of all of those over the counter meds now and my pediatrician says you shouldn't suppress it too much. But we like to use vick's vapor rub and you can get the Vick's vapor humidifier now too. I really think it works better than any medicine i have tried in the past for my 2 year old. The last cold he got I only used Vick's and it worked very well. Try putting Vick's on your baby's feet at night along with a pair of socks. Hope this helps!
