He has diariah really bad. Is ther anything I can feed him or give him to make it not so bad?? please help!! lol
If he's on Similac, they make an anti-diarreah formula, called Similac AD. It's available at Walgreens, and is only in liguid.
You should put him on a clear liquid diet and in his case that would be pedilyte. Do not give him his formula because this can keep the diarrhea going. Make sure he is having at least 3-4 wet diapers in a 24hour period. You should contact his Dr. in the a.m. babies can dehydrate easily.
Be sure he's getting lots of liquids and get some pedialyte, that way he gets his electrolytes restored.
I agree with everyone, the B.R.A.T diet - in baby form, apple sauce, rice cereal, mashed bananas, and pedialyte (the pedialyte, I was told, is only supposed to be given for 24 hours, then, he needs the formula again). But, like others said, since the regular formula can keep the diarrhea going, you will need to modify the formula for a while, until the diarrhea is under control. When this happened to my son, his ped had us give him soy formula for a couple weeks. Actually, they also thought my son may have been slightly lactose intollerant too, so, we stayed with soy until I put him on milk and he is currently drinking lactose free. I was told to give him that until he is 2 and then try again with regular milk. He us 21 months right now and has no problems with other dairy, so, I am thinking he will be fine with regular milk soon. Anyhow, yep...fun, fun. Good luck and hope your little guy is feeling better!
For older kids, doctors suggest the "BRAT" diet - 3 of the 4 can be given to an 8 month old. BRAT stands for Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. You can focus on giving him bananas and applesauce (baby food versions) and then give him rice cereal. Also be sure that he keeps having wet diapers to ensure he's hydrated. Good luck!

My son landed in the hospital due to this in December. It's a very serious matter and kids can die from it..However, I am sure this is not the case. Call your pediatrician and have him seen. My son had to get an iv and we had to wait 7 hours just to get it done. Otherwise at home we were doing formula and pedialyte and i mean only 2 oz at a time until he could hold it down. Get in touch with your pediatrician as I'm not sure of your son's diet (or formula/ breast milk)...
Most doc's will advise over the phone - mine will as they are well aware that I want to avoid the germs in the office.
However, depending upon how long the course of this has gone on, you may want to take him in as a child can become dehydrated easily - especially a young one.
Hi J. - bananas are good - mash one up for him. Also, I'm not sure how well he can chew but rice is good. So too are potatoes - you could bake him a potato and mash it up for him - hope this helps and he's better soon - Alison

I agree with the BRAT diet...but you can also add yogurt to it. The BRATY diet it's called...bananas, rice, applesauce, toast and yogurt. And pedialyte..like others have said, keep an eye on how many wet diapers you're getting, and if you get concerned..call your pediatrician. Good luck!
There is an over the counter drug for young ones. It worked for my son when he was little. I think it was immodium for children, but the pharmacist will help you find. It is a miserable for both of you. I hope it gets curtailed.
BRAT diet...give him little pieces of toast...applesauce would be ok for him as well. my daughter refused to drink pedialyte, so we watered down gatorade b/c we didn't want her to get dehydrated. Call your doctor if you need to or are really worried.
there is also probiotic powder that can help the good bacteria flourish, can get at walgreens also and mix it.
