I really dont know what to do, i have been to 3 PD but non were helpful in this aspect.

Has anyone gone through this please help.

Thanks a lot for the advice given. I will take a break for a few weeks and then try again later, as for trying formula milk, i have been trying to make her take it since the past three months tried all possible brands but she wont take it, by the bottle, spoon or the sipper.

thanks again

Starting them on solids around 6 months is a guideline , and you don't have to , if she is not showing any interetst in solids and it is a fight to get her to take any then stop , wait a month and then try again , if you are struggling with having to BF every hr or there abouts , could you supplement with some formula?

Her digestive system may not be developed to the point of accepting solid food. A baby's main nutrition is gained from breast milk or formula until the age of one anyway and so I wouldn't worry. Let her nurse as often as she wants to nurse. If your milk supply is low, which may be why she wants to nurse so often, you can supplement with a non-dairy formula.

My granddaughter was allergic to the protein in milk and didn't take well to breast feeding. She thrived on Alumentium, a non-dairy, easy to digest formula.

Also, babies do plateau in their weight gains and height. If her doctor is not concerned about her weight, I'd also stop being concerned.

Perhaps a lactation specialist could help you figure out if she's getting enough milk.

Many babies won't eat solids till around 1 yr. My son was happy with formula till 13 months old. It's perfectly normal. The tongue and swallowing muscles work differently for solid foods than when they breast or bottle feed. Giving them solids too soon means they gag, and the tongue just pushes the food out of their mouth. If your worried your milk supply isn't adequate, then your pediatrician should help find a formula that will work but not aggravate the lactose intolerance. Keep in mind too that weight gain slows a bit as your baby gets more active (crawling/walking, etc).

From what I've heard from other moms of kids with allergies, those kids just aren't interested in solids for awhile. The theory is that they are protecting themselves by waiting until their system is ready. It could be as much as 3-6 months before she is interested.

It sounds like she is going through a growth spurt, especially since she has not been growing recently. If you do nurse her as often as she wants right now, my bet is that is a week or so, she will not be nursing as much. Plus, nursing often when she is in a growth spurt will keep your supply up.

Hi M.,

You have already gotten good advice here, but I wanted to add that if she can tolerate breastmilk, she is not lactose intolerant. Lactose is lactose whether it comes from a cow, a mouse, or a human. I was surprised to learn this when my son (now 3 yrs) was diagnosed with dairy milk protein intolerance. I stopped eating dairy entirely, and he improved instantly. We didn't start him on solids til he was 7 months, but he was gaining weight ok. The pd told me to try supplementing with nutramigen formula, but he never liked it, never would take it (I wouldn't blame him- the stuff smells and tastes horrible).

Have you tried mixing mashed banana with breastmilk? or making rice cereal with breastmilk?

good luck - she will start eating solids when she's ready. They are their own little people, even when they are so little.
