Help!! my daughter has already lost her first tooth, in which she pushed out with her tounge by "accident" according to her. Now she has another loose tooth and like the first tooth she lost, the permanent tooth is almost fully grown behind the baby tooth. She cries and pushes away so hard at the thought or attempt of letting someone get her tooth out (even the dentist). I dont want to do it focefully because i know it can be traumatic for her since she is so scared. Ive asked her who did she feel most comfortable with in helping her with her tooth, of course no one. I tell her to try and wiggle and pull it herself, but she doesn't want to do that either. We have been working at this tooth since it was first loose, and I don't want her teeth to grow in the wrong way. Does any one have any suggestions, because this is just tooth #2!

What can I do next?

With my son we just let him eat things that are crunchy or hard. Like an apple, something with nuts in it. Then they are surprised when it comes out. If you take her to the dentist talk to them first about giving her something to help with the fear or anxiety like laughing gas.

Try taking the attention of fear of the child to joy of receiving a gift from the tooth fairy when it comes out. THis may help from being scared. You can also take her to the dentist and get a second opionion. Try preparing her prior to taking her. Tell her that she is going to get her teeth cleaned by a special person-kind of like mom does for her. It is really fun. While you are there have the dentist look at her teeth and check to see if all is well and if he needs to intervene. Do not discuss any injections, needles, anything fearful with the child. It is all supposed to be fun. Getting new teeth is exciting and fun and the toothfairy brings children money and gifts once they loose the tooth. Buy her a small tooth box to save her baby teeth. Again take the attention of the fear factor and redirect to the fun consequences!!

This is common thing for kids.....From a dentist.

trust me, it bothers you more than it bothers her. if it is really that wiggly, it has no root left and is just ready to fall out. and, it will. it doesn't have to be pulled, but i do understand if you're worried she will choke on it. here's my tip: if you don't already have her flossing, start. do it for her a few nights, not pulling anything tricky. then, when you're SURE it's really ready to come out (like, it moves when she breathes), while you floss around that tooth, stealthily tie the floss around it and pull tightly. she shouldn't even notice it came out until she you show her what "accidentally" happened. good luck to you and your daughter!

It's going to fall out eventually.. and most likely the other tooth/teeth will shift into place once they have room to do so. Does she go to the dentist regularly for cleanings? If so, I'd ask the dentist's advice on how important it is for that baby tooth to come out now. It may not be as big a deal as you think.

Go buy caramels. You don't even have to tell her why. Just let her munch on the caramels and if the tooth is really ready to come out, the caramels are sure to help make that happen. If you notice she isn't chewing the caramels in the front of her mouth, make a game of it and have some yourself. Pretend your a beaver that has to gnaw through the caramel using your "buck" teeth or something silly like that.

Hope this helps.
Infinite Blessings!

First of all, don't worry about it so much. If this tooth is that loose, it will eventually fall out on its own. It is not going to harm the permanent tooth growing in. I like the floss idea from another Mom. Get in there and "accidentally" pull it out ;-)
