My 5 Month Old Fell off the Bed :(

My 5 month old son fell off the bed in the middle of the night and I got so scared. He cried for a few seconds but then he got hungry and I fed him. He was awake for about an hour where he played and laughed with me as if nothing was wrong. I wasn't sure if there was anything I should do, I was thinking of going to the ER but I touched his whole body and head and he didn't scream of pain and his eyes responded well when I turned on the lights and moved my hand from side to side. I watched him the whole night (I'm barely awake right now) and he slept peacefully and I fed him again and he seemed fine (he woke up again for a brief moment and smiled at me but fell asleep again). Please let me know if there is anything else I should be doing.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My mom took my son to the pediatrician on Wednesday and everything went well. He checked him from head to toe. So I feel much better! Thank you to everyone for all their advice and reassurance!

he should be ok, but call the doc just in case. Hopefully it will never happen again but if it does here are some tips. while you and him are up playing like that, check his eyes and make sure they are not dilated. (they might be a little, but should return to normal if not call a doctor) Also check his eye flow with you finger or toy he likes, left right, then up down. he may not follow the whole thing cause he's young but most of it. and if you feel the need to stay up and keep watch over night just tickle his feet for a reponse. if you don't get a movement, then there is a problem. Since you feed him and he didn't throw up thats a good sign too. Good luck and get some rest!

My daughter fell off the bed once around the same age. She was fine. Although any fall can be very dangerous, we were told that generally falls from the bed do not result in serious injury since they're not too high. If you feel like you need to, call your pediatrician. It sounds like he's doing well if he's able to relax so well and eat.

I know how scary that can be, especially when it happens for the first time. I let it happen a few times before finally installing a bed rail - never happened again.

I'm sure your little guy is fine, they have tough noggins!

This happened to me when my son was only 6 weeks old. He cried for a bit and then was fine. I did call his pediatrician to make sure everything was fine and to ask her if there was anything I should watch out for. You did everything you could do. I think I was more tramautized than the baby. Everytime I looked at the bed he fell from I would cry. My baby is now 7 1 /2 months old and is as happy as can be.

Don't worry just try to make sure you are always watching him. At this age they are a lot more mobile.

Hi C.! My little guy just did that last week- so scary! I felt so terrible. Anyway, my doctor said that as long as he seems normal, is not throwing up and is not lethargic then there is no reason to worry. I did the eye tracking too, just to make sure everything was okay. Try to get some sleep :)

It sounds like he's just fine, however you should probably call your pediatrician for reassurance.

awe dont feel bad. im sure your son is just fine. my little girl has taken many tumbles off our bed from 5 moths and up. in fact she just did it yesterday walking right off my bed and shes 13mo. as long as he is eating, not in pain, reacts to you, and doesnt seem lethargic he should be fine. but if your worried just give his dr a call they should be able to answer your questions.
