Hi, I have a 5 1/2 month old daughter that always seems hungry. she has acid reflux so i have to put cereal in ever bottle plus zantact 3 times a day. i also give her 2 stage 2 jars of food a day i break them down so i don't overload her belly.everytime she see's food she flips and cries so bad she wants it. i think i made the mistake in letting her try table food. we try to give her her meals when we eat but she won't go for it she wants both.she has only had lil taste of things nothing major with table food.i thought with the cereal in the milk plus baby food she would be okay. it's all new to be since there is 10 yrs between my baby and son. so it's like learning all over again with her.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all the great information.I am sorry i didn't fill in the blanks though. our peds put her on cereal at 2 1/2 month in every bottle. She seemed hungry to me before that so i gave her a few spoon fulls around 2 months.but she has been eating
Anyway, here's our schedule for feedings:
When she gets up she gets a bottle (6-oz)
Then around 9:30 she has another bottle (6-oz)
Around noon she gets veggies (half a container of step 2) and another bottle or sippy cup
Around six is fruit (half a container of stage 2)mixed with cereal and another bottle or sippy cup.
Around 9 she has one more bottle and goes to bed.
i knew i let her taste people food a lil to early,i have tried instead of baby food some potatos, sweet potatos and does like that better and seems to fill her more. my concern is weight gain. she is i'd say 21 pounds if not bigger. i go back to peds july 14th so i will see if everything is okay.Thnaks again

Hi, my name is S.. When my son was born he also had the acid reflux. Maybe try giving her more baby food from the jar. Or try feeding her right before you sit down to eat, that way she should already be full. If that doesn't help, maybe you should call the doctor. They may be able to tell you to give her a different cereal. I'm 26 and the mother of two kids. I know how hard it is to deal with the acid reflux in a baby. I hope everything works out okay.

stay with formula and the medicatio cut out the food and try rice baby cereal with fruit mixed to an almost paste likecosistancy...feed her the cereal 3 times per day and give the bottle whenever she is hungry..babies are not ready for all that yet at that age and they get hungry more than adults.if the baby get chuby it will all come off when they start moving.

Hi, I have a 13 month old and at 5 months she was starting to eat table food with baby food. I was having the same problem with my daughter always hungry so I tried our food that she could eat and it seemed to work. I never really stayed long with the baby food, she was eating stage 2 when most babies were eating stage 1. I never gave her stage 3 b/c there was no point if she was eating our food. She was still getting her bottle, but not often I took it from her on her birthday. She didn't need it anymore since she was strictly on regular food. A couple of weeks ago she started to want food when she saw someone eating a snack. So I starting letting her eat a healthy snack twice a day and it seems to be working. And she is starting to understand she has to eat her food when mommy gives her food so she won't be hungry later. My sister has had acid reflux since she was baby and it was hard for my parents and still is to get her to eat food and not be hungry 10 minutes later. She knows what she can and can't eat so her acid reflux will not be affected. A little about me I am a first time mom at 22 yrs. old that is engaged and have only one child. I hope this information helps

My son PJ is at 7 months, also has GERD, so i know where you are coming from with the smaller portions.. Two ideas. First, have you tried the Podee bottles? I got mine online from Babies r us. they allow us to feed PJ his baby food first, then he drinks from his podee while we eat dinner.

Like you i let him taste table food, and it was an idea i wish i had held off a bit longer on. Now he wants whaterver is headed for my mouth. I guess after smelling some of his foods i dont blame him teehee.

The second thought i had was that PJ went tru the same thing at about 5.5 months, and had a BIG growth spurt. He grew over two inches in height in a matter of just 2.5 weeks. Maybe your little one is having a growth spurt?
Hope i have been of some help.

Hi H.!

You may want to talk to your pediatrician about increasing the amount of baby food. At 5 1/2 - 6 months I was told I could start with rice cereal and a stage 1 fruit in the morning and rice cereal and a stage 1 vegetable at night. Maybe your daughter is ready for more food? My little girl gets so excited to see food also. I definitely also notice that my little girl eats more around growth spirts too.

Take care,
S.

hello H.,
my daughter also had acid reflux with projectile vomit, si i too had to thicken her formula with cereal after several attempts at finding a formula her little tummy tolerated...of course the most expensive nutramigin(lol) but as far as the filling her up....i would mix her baby food with a little bit of cereal. Also by the age of 1 she was tested for pylonic stenosis, but by the age of 2 she was completely on table food and she tolerated that very well and now she is 4 and healthy as can be.

Try just giving her crackers or bitter bisquts between meals. Do mix ceral in with the stage 2 food at meals?

H.,

My sister works at a peds office said what you are doing is fine. Keep doing that. I had cereal in my sons bottle at 1 month old. he would have an 8 oz bottle of formula with 3 spoons of cereal. What I had to try with him was take the cereal out of the bottle and spoon feed it to him. When he was able to eat off a spoon.

You can try given your daughter cereal with the jar fruit or vegetable then her bottle. It might work.
