Take him to the Doctor.
Get a medical assessment...and so you know if he 'is' constipated or not.
"Forcing" poop to come out, is not good. Or if he is sitting a long time.
Or maybe he does not have to go at that time? Thus, it does not come out...

Our doctor said to use Miralax also. It disolves best in everything except milk. Also avoid foods like bananas, cheese - any binding type foods until he feels better.

If your son is getting uncomfortable, or if this has gone on for more than a day, you could give him a glycerin suppository (a liquid children's form is available). This usually gets very fast relief, sometimes within minutes.

But you should NOT rely on the suppositories, which should be used only once in awhile at most. Instead, be sure he drinks plenty of water every day, and eats plenty of fiber (veggies and fruit). Sometimes adding some yogurt with "live cultures," or some other form of probiotic, is very helpful.

I always had to put Karro Syrup in my sons drinks to keep his stool loose. There were a couple of times he was so backed up we had to do an enema. They have them over the counted at Walgreens for kids. The problem was solved immediately.

Good luck!

My son also has that problem too, and his dr. recommended PediaLax. It can be used everyday with no side effects. We've had our son on it for several months and it's been working wonders!!! We only give him about a 1/4 capful each morning in his applesauce, cuz he won't always drink what's in front of him.

Good luck with your little guy!! ls

White grape or pear juice always worked for my son. Prune juice if he'll drink it.

High fiber foods for daily regularity. Look at the labels.

To remedy quick:
1.Prunes/ prune juice. 2. If prune juice doesn't seem apetizing look at the fiber content of blended odwalla juice or similar that has close to 5g per serving! 3. Flax seeds. 4. Papaya. 5. water helps, but the above helps alot more faster.

My son has constipation issues as well. The Pediatrician told us to give him Mirilax everyday or as needed. At 3 yrs they recommended two tsp in 6 oz liquid. This stuff just dissolves and is taste-free. It works great! Good Luck!!

The old time remedy is prunes. It works. Applesauce also works great for my grandchild.

I'd too recommend calling the pediatrician. A lot of what people used to do is no longer recommended because it can create more issues.

Yes, liquids and high-fiber foods are good, but straining when constipated can cause issues such as anal fissures and hemorrhoids which are even worse to deal with.

After consulting with our pediatrician for chronic constipation, we had to put our daughter on a daily laxative to correct encopresis.
