My 22 Month Old Son the Stripper.....

How do you keep clothes on your kids?? My son keeps taking his diaper off along with all of his clothes. I was putting him in onsies in order to keep him from being able to remove his diaper. Well that was working fine up until now. He's figured out to get out of the onsies as well. I don't really think he's ready to be potty trained yet. I would really like for him to be able to talk first. He's only been saying a few words here and there. That's a whole other issue I'm working on right now. But do you all have any suggestions or ideas on how to keep a diaper on a kid??? I've tried overalls but he knows how to work those too. The only outfit that he can't wiggle out of yet is the one that is a full body suit with a zipper. However, it's hot right now, so a full body suit is not a good idea. Just a little frustrating. So any ideas would be great!!! TIA!!

What can I do next?

It's a phase they go thru. And don't dare laugh at them, cause they think they have done something cute and will continue. It is time to start potty training! Some children don't talk a lot, but they UNDERSTAND a lot, so start now, when he takes his diaper off, say, "you need to go potty"? and take him and let him sit there a few minutes and he will associate taking his diaper off with going to potty. Good luck! It does get better!

I have had the same problem with my 2 1/2 year old streaker as well. We used zip up onesies when we could, but I agree that it has gotten too hot. I have gone as far as to put duct tape over the tabs of his diaper. It works pretty well. We warn him when he takes his diaper off the first time and use time out after that. It has been an on and off battle since he was around your son's age.
Good luck!!

Two words: Duct Tape.

Works wonders. I had to use it on my son. Just tape the diaper on and he won't be able to get it off. Make sure the tape openings are at the back and that none of it gets on his skin. Good luck.

Some kids just do this and they DO grow out of it. Mine both did/do, and aside from the time my DD pooped on a table, I've chalked it up to hey-it's the only time they'll be able to run around naked as a jaybird and not get arrested! Besides, naked babies are soo cute! It's hot! He doesn;t want to wear those clothes-for him, there's no need for them!

I say, just let him run naked!!!!!

Well, outside at least. If he is inside, he probably needs a diaper. I think you could put any pair of shorts on him, and then use a big safety pin in the back to make them tight enough that he cant pull them down.

Oh man, let me know what you find out if anything works! My 21 month old daughter is going through this. I finally gave up and tried potty training-- yeah that is not going so great either. I just let her run around naked when we are home, and she actually stays in clothes if we are out. Going to be hard though in a month, my mom will be watching her again and she doesn't want to tolerate the nakedness. On the plus side, less diapers to use and she is starting to go on the potty now! (but still not ready for full training)

My oldest child was naked. all. the. time. I actually had to put her diapers on backwards and duct tape them. Finally, I waved my little white flag and gave up... and she was potty trained within a few days!! Apparently that's all she wanted ;)

Call the Chippendales! They've got a future recruit! Teee-heeeee
I have to agree that good old-fashioned duct tape would be the best solution. All the best - C.

Usually I would say take him outside naked and put the potty chair out. I know he may not be ready, but you can tell him if he has to go, to try the potty and if he misses so what. But there is no end in sight for this 100 degree weather so that may only be an option in the morning. As long as our daughter keeps her diaper on she is allowed to be naked as much as she wants inside. I bought regular underwear and put it on over her diaper. It's a little snug, but she hasn't been able to get it off. Maybe you can try it and if you give him Cars or something fun, he may want to keep it on.

If you find out let me know. My 24 month old daughter won't keep her clothes on either. Thank goodness we have a privacy fence in the backyard, because she strips as soon as she goes out the back door. I've tried the onesies and that still doesn't work. I've just come to accept that she'll do this until she loses interest or she does it when it gets cooler outside and will stop.

If your son is like my 23mth old daughter, duct tape won't work. She got the diaper off and left the duct tape wrapped around her. Yep, if they are determined enough, nothing is good enough. lol What we ended up doing for naps and bedtime, is using her zippered pj's and cutting the feet out of them and cutting the arms out so that it's cooler and we put them on her BACKWARDS. She, for the last few months (yes, it's still going on!!), hasn't been able to figure that one out - until last night - she got the diaper undone on the inside of the pjs but the pjs were still completely on. Go figure! She's tried potty training but just isn't there yet either. I completely feel your pain. Maybe our kids should meet :)

I had this exact same issue in 2009, posted it here - http://www.mamapedia.com/questions/11404891746786672641
Excellent suggestions but the ONE that worked (although Texas heat will prevent you from doing that right now unless it is frigid in your house), the footed, zippered sleepers! Put them on backwards as suggested when I posted my question. Worked like a charm! Never had the issue again.
