My 2 Yr Old Snores like a Lumberjack!

Hello all! My two year old son has been snoring unbelievably loud for the last 2 months or so. At first he had a little cold, so we thought that was the issue. Now, though, no cold, but the snoring is unreal! His room is down the hall from ours and it sounds like there is an adult (my grandpa, maybe? :))snoring! It's waking him up at this point and now he's ending up in our bed more often than we'd like. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

The cold could have caused his tonsils or adenoids to become swollen or enlarged. I would take him to the doctor. Not only is the snoring becoming a nuisance, but there could be something else underlying it.

Check w/ your pediatrician. May be tonsils or adnoids or allergies - or some combo. A humidifier may help in the meantime. Also make sure he's drinking lots of fluid (clear) vs. milk to thin out the mucus. Good luck.

Have his tonsils checked - my son did the same thing and it stopped once we had them removed.

Hi S.,
We had a similar experience with our son as well.
Have you had his tonsils checked? My son was suffering from enlarged tonsils due to seasonal allergies.
We thought we were going to have to have them removed but with the help of a nasal allergy prescrition the size of his tonsils decreased although they are still large.
He doesn't seem to be having any more snoring issues and as long as things seem to be quiet the doc. said there is no need to have the tonsils removed. They do however, suggest if the child needs to have the tonsils removed do it when they are still fairly young, like under 8.
I hope this helps!

My daughter was like that. They finally decided she just had huge tonsils and took out her tonsils and adenoids. Now the snoring isn't as bad except if she has a cold. Seemed to work for her. You might want to check to see if this is your sons issue.

You might talk to your pediatrician. One of my kids' good friends had his tonsils removed because his snoring at night was keeping him awake. As a result of the large tonsils, he was always really tired, he had a terrible appetite, was a small kid. Since removing the tonsils, he has changed. (So much so that the friends joke they might put the tonsils back!) He is now really energetic, has a healthy appetite and seems to be in better spirits.

Maybe not the same issue for you guys, but definitely worth talking to a professional about.

Not sure if this will help, but my pediatrician said my 2 yr old's tonsils are really large and asked if she snored a lot? That can cause snoring, as well as larger adnoids? I'm sure you've already mentioned this to your pediatrician but if not, you may want to ask what causes snoring for little ones. They are most likely going to remove my daughter's tonsils.

You might want to get his tonsils checked out. Especially if he's waking up in the night. My son was doing that too, though not as loud, and the doctor suggested I take him to an ENT to see about getting his tonsils out. We did get his tonsils removed. He sleeps better and doesn't snore. My son was 3 when we had the operation, and after the first two weeks or so he was doing much better.
