My granddaughter was allergic to milk protein as a baby. The doctor suggested trying alumentum formula. It has no dairy.

If you haven't talked to his pediatrician that's the next step. You need to know what is causing these symptoms before trying to treat it.

It's important to give it for at least a week to know if it helps. Babies, just like kids and adults often don't like change and takes time to adjust to the flavor. As Diane B said, mix the soy formula with his previous formula gradually adding less previous formula. That makes the transition easier.

Does he often have a painful, gassy, upset stomach? If not, it may not be caused by the formula. Talk with his doctor.

have you tried breast feeding him?? you know you can change your diet to help your son and feed him without the expensive costs of formula? Talk with your pediatrician and hopefully they have breast feeding consultant on staff to help you.

Congratulations on your new boy!

Good luck!

It's still very early in the transition, he probably isn't used to it yet. I'd give it some more time before giving up. Changes like this can be hard to get used to.

However, if you are concerned, give the pediatrician a call and see what kind of advice you can get. I assume it was the pedi who suggested the change in formula. Or, since it's the weekend, try calling the nurse advice line, if the pedi's office has one.

Not sure what he's eating, but my son didn't do well on the premixed liquid formula (too thick from too many emulsifiers, I think) but did fine on the powdered version.

Talk to the pediatrician too. But it's only been one day so it takes a little while to get used to it. If he wasn't miserable to the extreme on the old formula, see if you can mix it half & half with the new one, gradually tapering off over a couple of days. Obviously, if he was a mess, then you can't do that.

Don't be afraid to call the pediatrician even if it's over the weekend. There's always a nurse or doctor on call.

I don't know if there is a difference between brands but my son would not take Enfamil at all but he would take the Similac (Soy Isomil)...I know it's more expensive but he did great in it. Like Megan said, it's to soon to give up...hope you find a solution for your baby soon.

Give it a good week before you change it again. It takes time for your son to adjust to the new milk.

My son had milk lactose intolerance and we had to switch him. The brand we got was a name we had not heard of and it costs quite a bit a quart (premixed). When son went in hospital they gave him a different soy milk and he wouldn't take it so I had to leave the hospital and find it at a nearby drugstore and bring it in.

So don't give up. Call your doctor's 24 hour and leave a message or call first thing Monday morning.

We had to go back to the pediatrician so many times when my grandson was little. He had reflux and I would get puked on every single day.

Your doc should be who you talk to first. If your little one has a lactose sensitivity or allergy they will know which formula to move to next. Soy isn't like regular formula. It stinks and looks nasty. Our boy could only take one sort of formula and luckily WIC covered that one since the doc said that was what he needed. He thrived on it.

It's h*** o* your little one to switch around a lot. So stick with the change but in all honesty, I think this is a question for your pediatrician.

Since you just changed since yesterday he probably still has an upset stomach. Don't give up. The more correct relieving formula he gets the quicker the turnover. It may help to get a vibrating bouncer chair. It should break up the gas and get the bowel movements moving.

Hi K.,

Goat's milk is the closest to Human breast milk. My grandson had a tongue tie and couldn't breast feed and he did well on it. A lot of mama's will juice carrots and make a "formula" with goat's milk and carrot juice to get some extra "uumph." Most Pediatrician will tell you it's great!

God bless,
M.
