My 11 Months Old Son Is Not Crawling Yet, Should I Be Worried?

My son is 11 months old and he is not crawling. He is doing everything he should be doing (i.e. sitting up well, standing with support, grasping object with his pointer finger and thumb, passing objects from one hand to another, rolling aroind all over and scooting with his legs when he is on his back). I was just wondering if any of you other moms experienced this with your children and how things turned out. I'm sure he will turn out just fine. I am hoping that you will calm my slight concerns.

What can I do next?

There's nothing to worry about. My daughter didn't crawl at all. She would get upset everytime I put her on her tummy so that she would crawl but she would just roll over to her back. She started walking a few days before her first birthday. She's 4 now and is doing perfectly fine.

I am exactly like one of the posts here my daughter didnt start crawling till a year and she didnt walk until she was 15 months old. (although worrisome sometimes it is nice to not have to worry) as with my 9 month old son now started crawling at 8 months and I swear will be walking within 2 months he is already pulling around furniture. But it is so hard to keep up with him and his explorativeness. My daughter nver climbed or tried to climb from her crib either and I am sure my son will be the opposite. Babies all have there own time frame, but if you are really worried it never hurts to talk to the ped!

A.,

I have a 11 month old girl that turned 11 months on the 9th I had the same problem and also noticed her head tilt to the right sometimes. I took her to physical therapy and she had a weak neck muscle and the trunk of her back they just said she is delayed and also not all babies crawl. She is very smart and would rather just sit there and check things out then go get something she finds away by scooting. But last week she started to crawl it was just overnight. So I wouldn't worry about it if he can sit up and stand.

Hi A., My son did all kinds of things except crawl until he was about 11 months old. I wouldn't worry but if at some point you have a well baby check up you could ask the doctor. Sounds like he is doing lots of other things fine.

I agree with everyone else - don't worry. If you feel that you need to be doing something and have time to get on the floor with him, put him on his tummy and slowly guide him into the crawling position. Start with "walking" his hands up and then slowly guide his knees under him. You can then gently rock him in that position. This may help him understand and progress to the next step. This is what our physical therapist did with our daughters.

I have 3 kids, my oldest who is 13 didn't crawl AT ALL. He skipped it all together. He had literally no interest in it. He would actually get kinda mad if you had him on his tummy for too long. He NEVER crawled. Just one day started walking!!
Now my 5 year old "did" crawl, and I currently have a 8 month old who just rolls all around, my boys never rolled like she does, but no crawling yet. They have each been completely different from each other. I would personally tell you not to worry, he may just skip it altogether. All three of mine have been different! If it overly concerns you, you could always mention it to your pediatrician.

Babies are all so different. Your son may just be starting late. Some babies skip crawling - they go straight to walking. I don't think you need to worry as long as all the other things are on schedule. My sons were very different. My oldest was walking at 9 1/2 months. My younger son was just over a year. I don't remember when he started crawling, but it was later than the charts say. Those baby schedule things just drive a mom crazy.

Hello A.,
I was just like you.....worried. My daughter walked before she was one and i guess i thought thats what was "normal".
My son didn't crawl until he was 11 and a half months.....He didn't walk until he was 13 months and now hes EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!
And hes fine! Hes right on track and where hes supposed to be at this age.
Don't worry..........HES FINE.......REALLY!!!!!!!

It could be he is just skipping crawling altogether and going straight to walking. However, if he does not start walking and/or crawling soon and you Mom intuition is talking to you, you should listen. It has never steered me wrong. If you voice your concerns to his pediatrician and he/she tell you "wait and see" find another doctor. If your Mom intuition causes you to actually be concerned enough to ask questions here and then of a doctor keep pushing until someone listens and evaluates him appropriately. Hopefully, he is just skipping the crawling but keep a close eye on him and best of wishes.

Don't worry, my daughter never crawled and didn't walk until 15 months. She's perfectly healthy and is running all over at 3 years old now. Every child is different. My son started crawling at 9 months and now at almost one just started walking this week.

Don't worry! Babies develop at their own pace and will do everything on their own time. My daughter didn't start crawling until 11 months. She also did everything else, including using blankets and other toys to bring other toys to her instead of crawling to get them. I understand your concern; but she is now 19 months old and running everywhere! When she wasn't doing things I thought she "should" be doing, I just reminded myself that she has her own personality and will do everything when she is ready. Good luck, I am sure he will be crawling soon, but in the meantime, just let him be himself, it sounds like he is developing his motor skills right on track!

This is normal for some children. some children never crawl. they start walking instead. Some kids just take their time. they choose to crawl later. My nephew didn't crawl until he was 1 1/2. He walked at 2years. He turned out fine. So don't worry to much. He'll crawl when he's ready.
