Music Class

Hello! In my "previous" life (before kids) I was a band director/music teacher. In an effort to look at options of things of interest for ME to do besides just being a mom and to use the skills I've acquired (and for which I'm still paying for through student loans), I've been tossing the idea of offering a general music class for young kids (perhaps preschool age and/or younger). I'm basically wondering if there's interest in such a program and what sort of cost you would expect. If I were to offer it for basically the cost of supplies, would that be something attractive or too-good-to-be-true and no one would go for it? This is still in the very beginning stages as just a thought; nothing is started yet. I'd just like some input. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Elizabeth,
I too was a teacher in my previous life before two kids. We recently moved to the Crystal Lake area from Michigan.
When we were living in Michigan there was a class that I took my son to that was called "Movement and Music". It was very well-organized, and a great opportunity for children to get play, move, and explore music. It was very, very popular especially in the winter months. I would totally be interested in discussing doing this together possibly. I know she made a lot money. Feel free to email me if you want more info. I was actually just discussing doing this with my husband as a business opportunity.

I would totally be interested in this for my 13 month old. I looked into Kindermusic and thought that the price was outrageous and way out of our budget. Please contact me if you do this and are in the same area as the other ladies said (Crystal Lake, Huntley, Algonquin). I live in that area also.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I think that sounds wonderful. I have a 10 week old and although it doesn't sound like the classes would be offered to infants, at some point I would really like to get my daughter involved in some mommy/daddy and me music classes. It would depend, at least for me, where you live though.
Please contact me if you decide to start this up

Hi E.,

What an awesome idea! I don't know what area you're in, I'm in the Huntley area and have two preschoolers that I would love to take to a music class. Our park district has them but often divides by age groups. Since I have two that are twenty months apart, they would be separated. It would be nice to be able to have them together in something. Good luck and if you happen to be close, sign me up! Sincerely,
V.

Hi E.!
I would definitely be interested in something like this. Like others have said, a lot of the classes are out of budget and something more reasonably priced would be wonderful. I was a music major and my husband a music minor in college, so we're hoping our 18 month old has some musical interest too. I'd love to do a class like you describe! Please contact me if you do it!

E., where are you located? Depending on how far away you live, I'd be interested. I have two granddaughters living with me, ages 4 and 2, and they are already in a music class at day care, but they're totally nuts about singing and dancing, and making up new songs. I want to encourage that for as long as they will listen to me!!!! You can contact me, too, with more info at ____@____.com

I think there's interest. Kindermusik is the one we went to before, and though its a great class it was beyond our budget. For us it would be the matter of having real instruments to play with as that is where my son's interest is in (as apposed to just kids stuff)
