Mumps Vaccine Shortage
Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone else is in this situation. I decided to separate my daughters MMR shot. She has received Rubella and Measles but the doctor's office told me today they currently don't have the single dose of the Mumps Vaccine and don't plan on receiving it. They told me my only choice was to call every pharmacy in the area to try and find it OR give my daughter the MMR shot as one. Which totally defeats the purpose of them being separated and what I was trying to avoid. When I called a few pharmacies they told me the vaccine comes 10 in a box and unless they can get 10 prescriptions for the Mumps they can't order it or you have to pay for all ten.
Is anyone else in this situation? Any advice I would be grateful!

why don't you want to vaccinate all in one?

Hi K.. I use the regular vaccination schedule, however, many of my friends use an alternative schedule and have their children's pediatricians give the MMR separately. Two of my friends have called many pharmacies and the single dose of the Mumps is nowhere to be found. Apparently there is some question as to whether or not Merck is going to ship out any more. My friends are hoping more will be dispensed this spring or summer. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but I wanted to let you know that I have heard of many people who are in the same boat. Good luck!!

Here is a link to Dr Sears' article regarding MMR no longer being available in separate doses...

We are generally doing the alternative schedule laid out in the Vaccine Book by Dr Sears, but as far as the MMR I am waiting until my son is way past the age when brain development could potentially be affected by this vaccine. I probably wont get him the MMR until hes 4, and it will be the combination vaccine (well, theres no other option now!).
Read the article to which I linked... Its gives several options, including options for a situation exactly like yours.

Hi K.:
How did you find them separated? My pedi told me they weren't available anymore as separate injections. Do you mind telling my how you found the separate vaccines or where your pedi is located?
Thanks!
C.
