Mucous in Diaper of 3 Month Old

Hello! My baby has had mucous in his diaper pretty consistently since he was born. (Warning--this is a little gross.) It was really bad--globs like jelly and lots of strings. The doctor said it sounded like a food allergy because there was no change in color, didn't smell, no blood, etc. So, I haven't been eating dairy, wheat, and soy now for several weeks. It's a little better, but still his poops are slick with mucous. I am just going to cut out citrus now--tomatoes, etc.

His mood doesn't seem to be impacted. He's sweet, talkative, active little guy. He does sometimes really "work" on his poops, but it seems within the range of normal. We did nickname him Monica because his grunts sound like Monica Seles on the tennis court. :)

Any other ideas? Should I be more concerned or just keep cutting out food until it clears up? Any other food culprits that I might try cutting out? Anyone else had this?

What can I do next?

Have you showed the diaper to the pediatrician? My son's breastfed poops were really jelly-like, and the kid ate constantly, but really thrived, didn't seem to be fussy, so this could simply be what your son's poop looks like. My experience (I've got a healthy 4 year old and a healthy 1.5 yr old) is that if there really is a problem, the kid will let you know...

Corn causes a great deal of allergies and you may consider cutting out gluten as well. Otherwise, I do not know what to suggest. You may want to consult a naturopathic doctor to get some more ideas of what to try. J. K.

My son is 5 months old and he had the same thing. He just now has begun to have more seedy poop. And still it is very few seeds. I cut dairy from my diet but that did not seem to really have an impact. It just changed on its own as he got older. My ped. said he was probably just using everything up to grow on. He is a chunk. And a grunt too! We call him little grunt.
