Moving up a Diaper Size?

My 16mo old has been in size three diapers for quite awhile. I have no idea what he weighs so I don't know if he's reached the weight limit. We haven't had any problems with leaks. My concern is that lately his little butt crack has been showing! Doesn't that mean he's maybe too tall for them?

What can I do next?

Thanks! I use Seventh Generation because they're better for the environment. I'm going to go ahead and order a case of the next size up. Hopefully I can sell the case I have now. You were right. He came home one day after two dirty diapers had run up the back at daycare, I'm glad I didn't have to change them, lol!

My boys always outgrew them in height before they reached the weight they say or before they got tight. If his butt crack is showing I would move up. If he ever has an explosion (all kids have them from time to time)and he is not covered good you would have a real mess. I always up a size when the tape part stops going around their waist good.

My 14 month old just got moved to size 4 diapers for the same reason. In all honesty he could probably still wear a size 2 because he is so thin but I want EVERYTHING covered just in case.

Have you tried using a different brand of diaper? I have used just about every diaper out there with my four kids. I have found that a size 3 in one brand is not the same size 3 in a different style. For example Luvs, Huggies, and Pampers all vary slightly with their shape and size of diaper. And when we went with parents choice, it also was a different size even though all of the diaper choices were a 1, 2, or 3 size but the same size of each brand. If his little bottom is showing, be careful on those days of diahrea and major poops, because there will not be enough diaper to hold in all of that mess. Good luck with your search!

Hello there! My name is C. and Id like to help you out with this situation. My 8 months old son is in size 4 at the moment and only weighs around 18lbs. Its a little big, but not so much that its a problem. It covers everything, and we have absolutely NO LEAKS!! So go ahead, if you choose, move up another size. My son's reach his belly button and the middle of his back. It doesnt bother him or irritate, and again, covers all with no leaks. I hope this helps. What we did, to figure out how big to go, is we bought a size up, one package, and luckily it was the perfect size, but pretty much is a trial and error sort of thing. Hope this helps...take care!

R.: Try a larger size. But, don't worry about it. Most babies butts are visible at some point in time. Just keep him dry.

try it out it won't hurt anything and you will need them in the future anyway.

If he's not leaking and the diapers still seem to be a comfortable size, I wouldn't worry about upping the size. I think those weight things are guidelines, I've never really paid attention to them, I just use what works. However, if he's showing crack (LOL!) you might want to move up a size for modesty's sake & to avoid future leaks.

If things aren't covered and he gets sick it will go up the back. You may want to go up a size to prevent possible problems in the future. :)

HI R.,

I would try going up a size. If you know someone with size fours ask to borrow a couple and see what happeneds. My lil man always gets red marks on the inside of his legs from the diapers rubbing thats how I know look for those signs or if hes always messing with his diaper..

Hope this helps!

I have a 16mo too:) She is in sz 5, but I have a 3 yr old that I recently have gotten potty-trained. They both were in the same sz. diaper so it would save us on $$$ buying two diff. sizes. She isn't huge, and I could prob. go dwn to a sz 4 w/ her, cuz she is only about 22-25 lbs. If you wanna check out and see what his weight is yourself, jump on the scale w/o him and then jump on the scale w/ him and minus the difference. Have fun!
FYI~if his butt-crack is showing, the diaper is too small:)
