Moving to NYC from Chicago
Hello,
We are moving to NYC next month. I needed information about programs that I could take me 15 month old son to. Here in Chicago there is free story time in libraries and other free events at the neighborhood parks. Are there any such events there? Also, what's a good affordable area to live with a 15 month old? My husband will be working at Manhattan so something close to that area will be great.

Nutley is a nice quiet neighbourhood. We have a good library here with storytime and other activities for kids. There is a park, school and a shopping complex near by. NY is in the vicinity. 20 min. drive off-peak hrs. If you opt the public transportation it will take less than an hour to reach Port Authority NY. There are buses every 10 minutes during rush hrs.

I love living in Bayside. It is one of the best school districts in the state (School District 26)It is a 20 min. train ride to the city. It is pricey though. Houses are $700-800,000 for 30x100, & it will probably need some work. Has many parks with playgrounds & sprinklers. Barnes & Noble (bookstore) has storytime twice a week & The Children's Place (clothing store) sometimes does a story hour. timesledger.com is the local papers (click on different areas up top, will have rentals & houses for sale) nycenet.edu is the education website,greatneckparks.org is one of the parks dept. Hope this helps.

Hi S.. I live in Staten Island and yes, they do have free library reading time in NY. If you want to be close to the ferry to get to Manhattan, I suggest you try to move to New Dorp in Staten Island. Its not as expensive as other areas and its not that far from the ferry terminal.
