I have heard of movie theaters that have special viewings during the day for moms and babies. Does anyone know of a cinema in MA that does this?

Every other Friday in Brookline, they have movies that are baby friendly. The movie is geared for adult viewers, but they welcome infants into the theater. If you google "Box Office Babies," you'll find them.

Hi C. -

The Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline does this, and the cinema in Boston at the Loews Boston Common. It is really fun- and a great way to spend some time! I went all the time with my baby(now she is nearly three!).

Have fun-
K.

Hi C.,

The National Amusement theater in Randolph does baby pictures on Tuesday mornings. I went a couple of times when I was still on maternity leave. It was a lot of fun. My little girl would often sleep and if I needed to, I would nurse her in the veil of the dark theater. Here's a link to look up theaters and what movies they are showing http://www.nationalamusements.com/programs/baby_pictures....

Enjoy!

Randolph has a great cinema for young children and babies. It's on every other tuesdays. They sometimes will have Gymboree there, the price I think was $3.75 and they kept the lights low but not dark and the volume was also down. The movies however were not meant for children but for adults.
I know a cinema in Boston that offered the same thing. I think if you google it, you should find them.

Good Luck!

A few years back when I went to these Mommy matinees, Brattle Theater in Cambridge, Capitol Theater (Arlington), Somerville Theatre, and Loews Downtown (not the exact name, but the one near the Boston Common) offered them. Like PP said, if you do a google search, you ought to be able to find them. The schedule was usually a weekday early afternoon, the theatre kept the room dim enough to see your way around (not all dark), the sound was lowered, and overall best for babies who are not mobile yet.

Good luck!

The Capitol Theatre in Arlington does this, but I'm not sure what day of the week it is. I think it's the first showing on Tuesdays. Also, the big movie theatre in downtown Boston (corner of Tremont and Boylston) does it as well, but I don't remember the details about theirs either. Good Luck!

The Coolidge Corner theatre in Brookline does it on Friday afternoons....at least they did last summer. Also I think there is a theatre in Newton that will block off a movie during the weekdays if you have enough people, but you need to call in advance. Good luck.

Hi there,

I would strongly urge you to reconsider taking your infant to a movie theater. There is increasing evidence which shows that exposing infants to "screen time (tv, videos, movie screen, computer screen) is not only damaging to their eyes, but also incredibly damaging to their developing brains. It slows down their language development, their socialization, and their imagination and native creativity and problem-solving. Many parents have come to believe that it is "normal" or safe to allow their infants or toddlers to watch "edu-tainment" videos, because there are videos and movies which are marketed to small children. I would strongly question the motives of companies that market movies and videos to little ones.

Exposing your infant or toddler to videos and movies sets them up for a lifetime of screen-reliance, depriving them of their ability to entertain themselves and fully develop their brains, as well as putting them at risk for being overly sedentary and overweight. And it also sets you up later for conflict with them over how much time they are watching tv when they should be doing homework, playing outside, etc. Once you introduce tv, it is incredibly difficult to get rid of it.

Please reconsider before you make a decision that you will regret later on.
Good luck!

The Arlington Capital Theater on Mass. Ave. in Arlington does it. It use to be on Mondays at 1pm ish but that was when I was on maternity leave and was a year plus ago. I believe the Coolidge Corner Theater might do something as well. I would call or look online to find out what days/times. Good luck!
