Motrin & Early Pregnancy

Is it really safe to take Motrin in early pregnacy? (5-6 weeks)
My OB told me it was safe in early pregnancy when I was pregnant with my first but I didn't know if things have changed now. (It's been 6 years)
It is the only pain medicine that helps with my headaches and body aches so I figured I'll check and see if any other Moms have taken Motrin in early pregnancy or had any problems from taking it.
I've only had to take about 2 pills a day when I do take it.

Thanks for any advice~

What can I do next?

Thank you so much to all who responded.
I called my OB today and got a "safer" prescription for my headaches and pains.

All of your advice really helped and I appreciate you taking the time to write me.
Thank You!

I was told with all three of my pregnancies that motrin was dangerous and could cause birth defects. I would stay away from it. Good luck! When I was pregnant I took waarm baths to get rid of my aches and pains. Still do sometimes. The warm water soothes it away.

I would definitely ask your Dr anyway. However, I did ask my Dr. what I should take if I needed to, and she specifically mentioned that she'd rather me not take Motrin, but to stick to Tylenol. Congratulations on baby #3!

I mentioned to my OB that I had taken Motrin one evening while pregnant with my twins (it's all that was in the med. cabinet) and he said, no, no, no, take only tylenol. So, I really would avoid it. Read the back of the bottle (I'm sure you already have). If it's not safe for the last trimester then we probably shouldn't use it in any of them. Definitely talk to the dr. or his nurse.

I was told NOT to take it. Only Tylenol is allowed. Get a massage instead!

I don't know for sure, but my OB told me not to take it at all. I would check with your OB to be sure before you take anymore, just to be on the safe side.

I was also told to only take Tylenol. Be sure and talk to your doctor.

I was told ONLY Tylenol but If in doubt ask your OB.

Good Luck.

I was also told to avoid Motrin (and any form Ibuprofen). Like the others have posted, Tylenol was the only recommendation from my doctors.

Hope that helps!
