Hi Moms,
I am looking for some recommendations for some MDO or pre-school programs for my twin boys. They will be 2 next week, so I am looking for something in the fall. Just curious which ones to look into and which I may want to avoid. This is all new to me so any help is greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

I highly recommend Lakeland Christian Academy. It was my youngest's first school, and she absolutely loved it! I wish I had put my older two in there when they were in Pre-K. Their pre-k is very reasonably priced. If we were in a postion to, I would have all 3 of mine in there for regular school as well.

We really liked the program at Faith Lutheran in Flower Mound. My child started there in the 18 month old program. They are very reasonably priced AND the kids do NOT nap there. Their program is from 9:30 - 1:30. It helped me to make a decision after touring several MDOs in the area. I will also say that once you tour a facility, you will know immediately what kind of vibe you get and it helps to rule them in/out. Good luck!

Lewisville Christian School at Garden Ridge Church of Christ (corner of Main and Garden Ridge) is really great! Super friendly, kind, patient staff and teachers. My 9 year old daughter went there as a 4 and 5 year old. Last Spring when I was registering my 2 year old for MDO, I'd thought briefly of going somewhere a little closer, but when I walked into LCS again to pick up a registration form, they all immediately remembered me and my daughter and were anxious to know how she was doing, even though it had been about 3 years since we'd been there. I knew that my son belonged there, too.

He was barely 2 when he started this past fall and had a hard time adjusting to being away from mommy for the first 2-3 weeks. He was very clingy and the aide in his class was super kind, and held him almost the entire time while gently getting him to participate in their activities. I was very anxious about him and the office staff was super about letting me call several times throughout the day to check on him. They'd walk down the hall, peek in on him and let me know exactly what he was doing. He now loves his school and teachers. They are such a blessing to us!

Hope you find the perfect place for your boys! I'd definitely recommend looking into LCS!

I have heard good things, too, about Lewisville Christian School, and they are very reasonably priced. However, my son currently goes to Applewood Learning Center on Timbercreek, across from the elementary school, and he LOVES it there. He has learned a ton and the staff and teachers are very nice. They are more expensive than LCS, but to me, it's worth it! This is only their 3rd year to be open, I believe. Good luck with your decision. It's really best to pick a few that people have recommended, then go visit them yourself to see where you feel the most comfortable. I would also recommend making a list of questions ahead of time that you might want to ask, to be sure you don't forget anything while you're there. Again, good luck!

If you go to this page and click on "Children's Day Out/Preschool Programs" under Special Issues, you'll find a pretty complete list of the schools in our area.

My daughters went to CCDC at First United Methodist of Lewisville and have a wonderful experience. They've been around for well over 20 years and have lots of long-term teachers, administrators, etc., many of whom had children go through the program as well. They offer 2-3-4-5 day programs and are one of the most reasonably priced in our area.

Good luck!

Both of my daughters attended Lewisville Christian School and my son attends there now. The teachers there are wonderful and so is the staff! We have really enjoyed our experience there. My daughter who is 10 now attended when she was 4 and 5, my other daughter attended when she was 3 and 4 and my son has been in MDO there since he was 2 and I have registered him for preschool for next year. I believe registration opens to the public this week. They are very reasonably priced and I like the hours. I have had friends whose children have attended other MDO/Preschool (church) programs in the Lewisville/Flower Mound area and I haven't heard bad things about any of them so I'm sure you will be safe with any decision you make.

Hi J..
Just some friendly advice. When looking for a quality program, do not be swayed by what I like to call "eye candy" ie...state of the art equipment, beautifully decorated walls and manicured lawns. Tour at least twice(once by yourself and then another with your children ) at different times on different days. Tour programs during times of transistions - lunch & before parent pick up about 45 minutes before closing as well as during curriculum time. Watch for child/ teacher interactions and stress level of teacher during these times. During the tour, listen for a "working" noise level - a very quite classroom suggests a dictatorship style / teacher control with very little room for exploratory / creative time for the children. Is the teacher engaged in activity with the group or is she just watching? Does the caregiver smile and encourage the children to extend their activity or try somethimg new? I could go on...but hopefully this helps. Most importantly, if the caregivers look like they do not want to be there....the children probably do not want to be either.

I don't have preschoolers, but my good friend has 2 girls who both went to Lamb of God on Main Street and has been very happy with them. I think there is usually a waiting list and church members are given priority.
