Does anyone have advise how to get my 10mo. old involved in outside activities and what is appropriate for a 10mo old. I have primarily thought of language programs ie.spanish or sign language or maybe swim lessons but have heard of different opinions on when to start these things for children. .

What can I do next?

Just getting him out among other people so that he can see things and interact is good. The Plano libraries have story-time and so does Barnes & Nobles. There are pools just for babies. Planet Pizza might be a good place during the week, because not too many people are there and there is a good play area. Ditto with some of the McDonalds etc. Take him to the park. See if you can get a playgroup together so he can interact with other boys. good luck.

Gymboree Play & Music in Plano is LOTS of fun! They offer baby sign language and also fun play classes. It is lots of fun for Mom, too. I highly recommend that!

I agree with the posts about a playgroup. Both my boys have been in one since they were little.

You might look into some Mommy and me programs such as -

Little Gym - kids that age enjoy gymnastics type activities. And, I'm sure he'll be walking soon.

Story Time at the Library - Flower Mound has one for that age that is real interactive

Good luck!

I completely agree about the playgroup. I have been involved in one since my son was 7 weeks old, and it has been great. In the beginning, it was more about me getting out of the house so I didn't go crazy. Now it is because he really enjoys interacting with other children. You can look for a group on here or on Meetup.com, which is where I found my group.

I don't know much about language classes, though I do know Gymboree does Baby Signs.

Don't feel pressured to get your son enrolled in a lot of activities so early. When my son was that age we enrolled at Gymboree Play, mostly for the social aspects and to have something to do to get out of the house, and it was a lot of fun. The most important thing at that age is to get them out and seeing others. We started in a playgroup around the same time. It was a lot of fun for my son, and the playgroup has been together for almost 5 years now and I have some great Momma friends too.

I sure understand what you are going through - that was me with my son when he was little too.

First thing I did was join a Moms Club. Here's the URL: http://www.momsclub.com/. You will find one in your area and they usually have playgroups broken down by ages. It's nice cause then you meet other moms with kids your son's age and you have grown ups to talk to while the kiddos play. :-)

Swim lesson are a good idea too. Also, Gymboree and Kindermusik.

Good luck!

It's great to get out, but don't feel pressure to do too much. My children have taken only a few classes, and never until age two; not so much as a Mother's Day Out for us. They're both normal, healthy & decent kids.

A wonderful tool is the sign language class. It is really fun interaction and gives him a way to communicate that will really help both of you when he is a frustrated toddler. It also helps him develop language structure much earlier.
I really agree with Little Gym or Gymboree as a great interactive activity that is great for both of you.
Have fun,
K.

swimming lessons would be okay.

get beginners language tapes and play them to him as he's playing or maybe taking a nap.

there's t-ball/soccer at 4-5 years of age.

read to him daily for about thirty minutes-hour. enjoy him while he is a baby.

I think the best thing is just to find a playgroup to start him socializing with other kids his age. My son has been involved in a playgroup since he was 1 month old! Yes, at that early age it is more about the mommys, but I still think it has been good for him to be around other kids.

For structured activities, I suggest The Little Gym and library story times. Many libraries have programs specifically for pre-walkers. We went to the one in Carrollton, which is terrific. You might also look into Gymboree or Kindermusik classes.
