Okay, so we went to my fiance's brothers wedding last night (I call him my BIL to make it easy) and it was an outdoor event. It was in the back yard, it was a nice wedding over all, except he only had one bug zapper and it just was not enough apparently, it never shut up! So, I have (possible tmi alert) about 100 (yes some are on top of eachother and nestled next to each other) mosquito bites on the back of my thighs, butt cheeks and in the "crease" between. In addition some around my bra, breasts and arms with a couple on my feet. I typically use roll on deoderant to ease the itching, but it is just painful at this point - does anyone have any suggestions? They are swollen, I am trying to stay off of them and not sit on them (on my side), wearing a dress and not touching them. So, does anyone have any advice for great tips? To top it off our water heater is out and we have to wait for the land lord to get someone out here (he came by to look at it today) so a cool shower is out of the running b/c a cold one irritated them more. Please help!
They are NOT chiggers, I have had chigger bites, I know what those look and feel like. I was sitting for the majority of the reception - they must have gone thru the chair I was sitting in (cloth) and I had a shorter flowy dress, easy to "go up." While drinking I did not notice them until I got home/undressed. Then this morning my fiance saw them and freaked about it - and started counting!
Benedryl.
Mosquito bites are an allergic reaction to the numbing agent (my evil cousin isn't allergic :P, we can have hundreds, she'll be bit as often but not react). So an oral antihistamine (such as Benedryl) will GREATLY reduce the reaction.
Make a paste with baking soda and water and put that on the bites.
When you can take a bath in baking soda water. Go to a friends house, maybe?
Take an antihistamine like Benadyrl to see if that helps. Cortisone cream or the aloe with lidocaine you use for sunburns helps too.
There is something I use & have used it for years on myself as well as my kids, its called a bite stick and its just 100% ammonia & you dab it on each bite & it will stop the itching I PROMISE this works .. If someone has walked off with my bite stick I just use ammonia on a cotton ball works the same, I will warn you that if you do put it on a bite that has been scratched it will BURN for a few seconds but it does stop the itching.. It is also WONDERFUL for bee or wasp stings too, I guess that's why I can never find my stick after letting someone use it for a mosquito bite or a bee or wasp sting, lol.... I usually get my bite sticks at Walgreens or Walmart at Walgreens it's with the other bug sprays but the bite stick looks like & is the same size of a marker OR you can just use 100% ammonia on a cotton ball like I have a thousand times, the bite stick is great to throw in your purse if you are going some where outdoors that you may get bit... I hope I've helped bring you some relief ...
I'm a mosquito magnet and get the best relief from Benadryl Gel. Slather it on, takes a few minutes to dry. I apply it more often than recommended. It seems to dry and shrink the bites and they go away faster than without the gel. Really helps the itching, too.
We use this stuff called After Bite. You can get it at Target, most sporting goods stores, sometimes the grocery store. It comes in a little pen-shaped tube and you just dab it on. It stings like the dickens for a few seconds and then the itch goes away. (Re-apply when it stops working! ;)
My toddler is a mosquito magnet, and he swells and blisters. I use Benadryl and Cortizone for his bites. I recently discovered--after trying everything else that I can think of to be safe for him--Burt's Bees all natural insect repellent, and it has kept him bite-free for a week, now!!
Benadryl.
And apply toothpaste (not sure if gel works, but I know that paste does).
We get good results with Benedryl.
Take the max dose.
It will make you sleepy, but the itching will get better.
Witch hazel does wonders for the itch regardless of what bit you.
I do agree it is most likely not mosquitoes unless you were running around naked. Mosquitoes don't seek anything, they land and bite.
It could be no see ums though I cannot remember their given name. Thing is though the only thing biting that seek tight places is chiggers.
I am generally the designated victim, everything likes to suck my blood. Different chiggers bite differently. I got something biting on me in my backyard that leaves what looks like an itchy zit! No fun.
Oh, I remembered this morning, the little biting things that make the itchy zits, I think they come from trees. We have a mosquito trap, think bug zapper on steroids, so we have no mosquitoes in our back yard, or front for that matter. They get me between the boobs every time and always when I am gardening under our pine trees. They start out like mosquito bites but get puss after a couple days and take a lot longer to disappear than mosquito bites do.
Are you sure they aren't hives? Hives look very similar to mosquito bites. Either way, some Benedryl should help.
Benadryl spray, cortizone cream and take a benadryl tablet. DO NOT SCRATCH! You will scar, my teenage dgtr is living with a lot of small scars on her legs. Keep yourself as cool as you can and try to stay indoors until the majority of the itching subsides. If you are really sensitive to the bites, the itching may return after a few treatments. Be patient and buy some unscented bug spray for your next outdoor event. I have also learned to pack the discreet citronella devices in my purse. I HATE mosquitos and I'm afraid we are in for a terrible summer!
I agree with the benedryl. The other thing that I have done is rubbing alcohol or spray hairspray on them (the alcohol). It usually cuts the itching down dramatically. I've also used the Bite stick with success. Wow, I didn't think the mosquitoes were out yet this year...I'm sorry for you.
